Topic: Can I run both versions after upgrading v.6 license to v.7?

I would like to upgrade (with the €29 option) and run v.7 on one "activation slot" (PC) but keep v.6 running in its original secondary activation slot and PC. Will this work without having to do anything on the second PC?

Posting here in case, albeit unlikely, others have the same question

Thanks.

I'm keeping my v6 and v7 in the same computer, and they're just taking one slot in my activation slots.

Thanks, I wouldn't have guessed that! So your user profile shows two licenses (serials) now?

Did you need to reactivate v.6 at all with its own serial or did it just keep working?

Thanks.

Even I am just using one PC with one activation slot. But I have recognized that after upgrading v6-pro to v7-pro my serial has not changed. So as long as you won't change the distribution (e.g. from standard to pro)* Moddartt would not give you a new serial, you just have the right now to use your serial up to v7.
The first days I kept both v6 and v7 running under the same serial for comparison reasons.

Although I cannot guarantee, you might think positive that it would work, keep running v6 on one PC and v7 on another PC.

Please do not forget that v7 has its own settings and I guess v6 presets might not load into v7 (forgotten to try it out).

*(Thanks to Zaskar)

The serial only changes when you upgrade to a higher distribution (stage to standard, standard to pro). Then the old one expires.

6 should run alongside 7 without difficulty (except the KIViR instruments should be installed with different names in different directories if you install the new 7.x only version).  As long as they're on the same computer, you'll just be using one activation and one license key.  I have 5, 6, and 7 alongside each other without problems (though I don't really use the older versions).

Thank you everyone, you've helped a lot!

So presets will be different. Hopefully a rather complex equalizer setting I have can be file-imported into v.7. I will update here once I get to it

Re: Can I run both versions after upgrading v.6 license to v.7?

Hi,
I found this a little confusing as I have just upgraded to Version 7 and it has not removed Version 6.
Most software upgrades (non Pianoteq) automatically remove the previous Version before installing
the new one.
How do I remove Version 6 without affecting 7 ?

In a case like that, to be extra-safe, backup your presets in another folder.  I haven't had any issues with old presets being imported into 7, but it's worth the extra caution in your case.

--------------

To remove v6, they're in separate folders and whatever OS you use should allow you to remove it without problems.  I tend to keep older versions so that I don't lose any VST settings in Cubase or other hosts (since each version of PTQ is a different VSTi) so I can see exactly how something was configured prior to switching to another version within a project.

Re: Can I run both versions after upgrading v.6 license to v.7?

Hi All

First post here. Have been blown away with Pianoteq for the last month after Keyscape..:-) I did open Keyscape the other night after several 20 minute reminders to restart only to hear a chaos of frequencies especially in the low registers, no sympathetic resonance, nothing, what about the three way pedal of the VPC1, nothing... My keyboard is alive because of Pianoteq. Then right after I decided to buy Pianoteq Standard 6, Seven arrived..! Is it just me that thinks there were more rawness and authenticity in 6 or its my unrefined ears yet.

My question is can I still buy Pianoteq 6 and then upgrade to 7 for whatever the price is so I have both??! I can not find that option on Modartt.com

Re: Can I run both versions after upgrading v.6 license to v.7?

Update:

Upgrading to version 7 from 6 is seamless! Activation of your existing serial is required for v.7, then it finds the (custom in my case) presets folders you have set in version 6. The equalizer setting I mentioned was readily applied. So, apparently, settings such as EQ and Velocity curves are interchangeable.

Detail, regarding "frozen parameters":

Later on, I separated the presets folders for each version (choosing a different folder in the settings) because I thought that re-using the v6 ones created an issue with the "frozen parameters" option. This separation, however, did not solve the issue. Either "frozen parameters" works differently than I expect or there is a bug in v7. I explain:
My expectation with "frozen parameters" is that, once set, no matter what instrument I choose - including unchanged default ones - the, e.g., equalizer, setting will remain fixed. For me this works but then does not persist through program restarts. So, next time I start Pianoteq, if I switch to a preset I haven't explicitly saved with my EQ setting, I will get the default EQ

I think the only option now is to buy v.7 and then download v.6 to run (under the v.7 license):
