Topic: 64bit OS verses 32bit OS

hey all you pianoteq people

looking into an arms powered pianoteq workstation and have a rasberry pi 4.

its OS runs on 32 bits so far, though they are developing a 64 bit system.

ubuntu has a 64bit OS for the pi, and i was thinking of installing that onto the pi 4

my question is this : does having a 64bit OS speed up pianoteq or does that only speed up the GUI of the OS

Re: 64bit OS verses 32bit OS

It will slow it down to 0. At this time, there is no 64 bit arm version. Also, the 64 bit OS may not run 32 bit code binaries at all without serious hacking. This is the case at least for Manjaro OS. Purely for performance, I would use PIOS 32 bit.
Once we have a 64 arm version, I expect there will be modest increases in speed.

Great to know! I was assuming that the linux version was 64bit, being your windows/mac have that capability.
And I'll look into PIOS 32bit.
thx
