Topic: Midi out in Pianoteq and Organteq

I’m not sure if this subject was mentioned before. But I think it would be very nice in case Midi out would be implemented in Pianoteq and perhaps also Organteq.
I’m a pure hobby user of the standalone version of Pianoteq 6 (no other computer software like a Digital Audio Workstation is implemented or used). As midi input for Pianaoteq I use the keyboard of the Yamaha Montage 8 synthesizer (USB). In many cases the synthesizer is used also to produce a layered sound in addition to the sound of Pianoteq as the lead instrument. A very nice feature of Pianoteq is that it stores all notes you are playing to capture that ones in a live time successful song or experiment. So far so good.
But in my case, when playing back the song, only the Pianosound of Pianoteq is heard caused by the simple reason that Midi out is not implemented. In case midi out is available too the layered sound of the Montage would be heard at the same time, making that once in a life time song complete.
Via the service desk the developers of Pianoteq are asked if it is possible to implement Midi out in Pianoteq and perhaps also in Organteq.
I’m not sure if I’m the only one who would like this feature. So please react in case others like this feature too.

They could build this feature into Pianoteq.  But there are also "midi player" apps available that can play the notes stored in a midi file.  That is, they can play the files that Pianoteq automatically creates, which in your case would involve routing the midi commands to two different destinations:  Pianoteq and your Montage.  There are free midi player apps available, probably, on every platform (i.e., mac, windows, linux, ios, android).  So it can be done without Pianoteq adding the feature, just takes a little extra work.

I would guess that your Montage also has a facility to record your playing, with which there should be some way to play it back and have the midi go to both your keyboard synth and to Pianoteq.  Again, not as simple as if it were built into Pianoteq, but doable.

Thanks for the tip. The Montage has a midi record function but it is not very user friendly. And when you start playing (my normal way) in that case you will see the record function was not enabled at that spontaneous moment. It will not record a complete sequence when playin at random as Pianoteq does, you have to startup a midi record session. I will look after midi applications that are simple to manage and look if it is possible to connect the output to the Pianoteq and external like the Montage. But I still think the most simple solution would be a midi out in Pianoteq.

Clearly, yes, that would be the easiest way for users.  But if it doesn't exist and you want to do it now, you look for other ways.

Regarding a midi player app, Pianoteq saves each separate recording as a midi (.mid) file on your computer.  You can find the location by clicking on the "midi archive settings. . ." at bottom of the recording snippet dropdown.  Any of those .mid files can be loaded into a midi file player (or a DAW).

The more troublesome step may be then routing the midi player's output to the two separate destinations: to Pianoteq and to the Montage.  How you do this would depend on what OS and midi player app you're using.

Also, playing the .midi file on the Montage may still be a usable solution.  The issue you describe on the Montage seems to relate to recording.  But you could still use the Pianoteq recordings on the Montage.  I assume this would involve copying a Pianoteq .midi file to a usb drive (on your computer) and then plugging the usb drive into Montage, and playing the midi file from there.  The midi files recorded by Pianoteq should be the same as the midi files recorded by Montage, except as you say the Pianoteq recordings happen automatically.

Thanks for the reply. Pianoteq will store all midi information that it receives and that is what I mention as automatically.
I will try to select the files from Pianoteq and load them in the montage and I will find out if this is simple or needs a lot work arrounds. But I still hope that the programmers like the idea and implement it in Pianoteq. Thanks again for the help.

Re: Midi out in Pianoteq and Organteq

Maybe something like the DDMF Metaplugin wrapper would work. It requires a DAW or similar, but allows the MIDI Input to be routed to both a hosted instrument plugin and a MIDI Output at the same time. I've been using it with Forte Notation, which has a MIDI Thru function that can be configured to output to a specific device on my system.

Thanks for the reply. I have no DAW. Also saving one of the midifiles from Pianoteq for use in the montage is a little complicated, Th midifile can be placed in the montage but it only reads this from a thumbdrive, thus you have to copy the file to this thumbdrive. So a lot of work to get it working. Most simple solution is still the idea of midi out direct from Pianoteq. But thanks for all the advise.
