Topic: C. Bechstein & Bluthner hybrid?

Really like the low end of the Bechstein but the presence and clarity in the highs of the Bluthner are much more stunning. Is there a way to make the Bechstein's high end have that Bluthner clarity ...or the inverse, have the Bluthner capture that incredibly realistic and deep Bechstein low end?

I typically use a 2 mic set up to emulate, as close as possible, a realistic player position on both.

Overall, I find the Bechstein high end too 'ringing' compared to the clarity of the Bluthner. Conversely, the low end of the Bluthner doesn't have the tonal depth and resonance that the Bechstein does.

Hope that makes sense. Anyone have any recommendations...or better still, an fxp to share?

If only there was a way to blend two presets together!

Re: C. Bechstein & Bluthner hybrid?

Depending of the controller you use, you could run two instances of pianoteq and make a split on the keyboard. Without a drastic shift between registers, I can't imagine how to do this. To avoid a strong disperencie between instruments,  you would need to make progressive edits (either with pro version or many standard instances)...unless you want to have an instrument that sounds like a sample based one.

Re: C. Bechstein & Bluthner hybrid?

As a suggestion, you could try to make 2 tracks of Pianoteq in a DAW assign zones by pitch. Less convenient for live piano rig... but still possible.

Re: C. Bechstein & Bluthner hybrid?

I did exactly that in the past to combine the low end of the Ant. Petrof with the high end of the Steingraeber by smoothly editing the volume in the Pro version. If you have Standard, you can also note edit the volume in a similar way. To play you need of course to load two instances of Pianoteq in a Daw. I called the resulting instrument petrofgraeber...

Here are the two fxps:

EDIT: Here is a Chopin Etude showing the connection is pretty seamless between the two instruments:

Gig Performer may present some possibilities.  You get it with a discount from the User Area, https://www.modartt.com/user_area?s=promotions.

Pianoteq 8 Studio Bundle, Pearl malletSTATION EM1, Roland (DRUM SOUND MODULE TD-30, HandSonic 10, AX-1), Akai EWI USB, Yamaha DIGITAL PIANO P-95, M-Audio STUDIOPHILE BX5, Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 DSP.

Re: C. Bechstein & Bluthner hybrid?

There are many options to try out with Gig Performer.

You can insert the same plugin twice, and create a split for your keyboard. That way one part of your keyboard plays one preset, and the second the other one.

You can also create this split by using the velocity feature. If you hit a key harder it will play the second preset.

If you want to blend two presets together, you can use GP's Mixer and Filters. There are really lots of possibilities to work with.

I like to add, if anyone needs to try out Gig Performer on his or her system, a free trial is always available from the Gig Performer web site https://gigperformer.com/.

You've raised my awareness, Nemanja.
