Topic: Bach - BWV 147 Jesu joy of man's desiring (Jesu bleibet meine Freude)

Johann Sebastian Bach made a lot of great music. This is one of my favourites now. It’s derived from a chorale setting of the Cantata. I like to listen to this music. It is often performed slowly at weddingceremonies.
Bach's version is a faster tempo compared to what is more popularly listened to now. Nevertheless, after lisening to orchestra/choir performances which had a fast tempo, I chose my own tempo (slower than the choir). At least I try to get it flow beautifully…
When life throws us with difficult challenges, when we feel difficult to keep going, then I can listen to this wonderful music. Bach Magic!

Beautiful as usual!

I sang this piece often in my choir, both separately and inside the cantata. Simple, but always moving.

This is one of those times when the consoling music of Bach works magic. Bach sometimes makes use dance, other times he moves us, and all the time he simply blows our mind with proofs of his genius, often by extracting so much out of very simple chorale melodies.

Yes Gilles, and I think Bach was very human ( he got a reprimand from his boss that he had played the organ too long in a service, so at the next opportunity he deliberately stopped too early, just to tork him off.  :-)
