Topic: J.S. Bach Prelude BWV 552 J.G Walther - Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimm

J. S. Bach: Prelude (and Fugue) in E-flat major, BWV 552

Please take time to read all this to understand the outcome of my ”work” with Organteq

First of all, this piece require organo pleno registration (the full organ but not same as tutti). As I have learned, it means full principal chorus, 8’ 4’ 2’ mixtures……and use them together. Unfortunately, I couldn’t create such a festive and joyful sound as I wanted. That’s not Organteq’s fault. It’s my little Mac mini late-14, 2,6 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5, memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. CPU say overload and the music is interrupted. Too many stops used :-(   So, I had to reduce the number of stops, and the polyphony to 192). I listened to about 60 performances on Youtube and everyone was different, their own registrations, tuning, sound and tempo. So I created my own registration/tuning to get festive feeling with so many stops mac mini could swallow (and diapason 435Hz, French 1859, suitable for my Organteq room temp.  59°F/15°C   :-)
(They say a pipe organ will sound its best whenever it is at the same temperature as when it was last tuned. Don’t know which temperature Roman used for particularly this my Organteq :-) but they also say the temperature should be the same as that at which the organ will be typically used)    :-)

Bach Prelude in E flat major BWV 552 (the beginning of it, used as wedding music, about 33 bars). It is, in my opinion, one of the most fantastic Bach-compositions for organ. Sorry to say, in some places I couldn’t play a lower mordent and upper mordent (pralltrille). My fingers didn’t work. Hope you forgive my mistakes. But this is me. Have to test Organteq with different kind of music and to keep practicing, let’s see where I stand after six months :-)   Because we are never too old to learn an instrument. Always when we do something, the brain is changing (rewired) and that lasts into old age. My old headmaster said, when I was young, that you can do the same things as old and learn, but it goes slower and takes a bit more time. Well, now I’m there :-)
One can have different opinion about the registration, tuning and tempo, (faster, slower as on youtube) but this tempo is my choice.  - And for those who don’t know, I’m not an organist (that takes years of practice, discipline, talent…) I’m just an Ptq/Orgtq enthusiast that like to play these instruments and need to use composition and playing to express emotions. We all have our own, individual ways of dealing with difficult situations in life.

Keyboards and stops used in the Prelude:

Re´cit: Flute 4’  Doublette 2’  Cornet   Voix Humaine 8’   Clairon 4’

Grand Orgue: Bourdon 8’ Quinte 2’2/3  Doublette 2’  Plein Jeu 5’  Trompette 8

Positif: Flute Traversiere  Plein Jeu lll  Clarinette 8’

Pedale: Principal 16’  Gambe 8’  Flute 8’  Flute 4’  Bombarde 16’
Couplers: Pos./G.O.     Re’c/G.O.

And - Thank you so much, Roman and Modartt, for Organteq!  :-)

J.G Walther - Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme 1684 – 1748
Walther was born at Erfurt. Not only was his life almost exactly contemporaneous to Johan Sebastian Bach, he was the famous composer's cousin (Wikipedia).

Very nice! I like them, great playing and nothing "mini" about the sound...

Thank you for introducing me to new music. After listening to your playing - which was great - i wanted to hear the full piece, so i had to dive into youtube. I think my favorite is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDVfbFjOFDQ because of the deep bass and overall powerful feeling. Yes, i love those deep bass sections.
Also, i did not know that the lower register is played with legs - that is awesome! Wish i could play with legs.

Thank you for your comment and support! And it’s nice to read this ”Thank you for introducing me to new music”. It’s fantastic! You dive into Youtube to hear the full piece. What can I say - it’s like I have opened a new door for you into the world of music. I feel very happy!
Now you encourage me to play not only the prelude (that you was waiting for) but also the fugue in my next upload. I think I try J. S. Bach - Prelude and Fugue in G Minor BWV 558 ( perhaps not Bach, it could be one of his student’s that made it, maybe a bit easier).  Anyway, Thank you! I am genuinely happy that you can enjoy this kind of music :-)

What nice things to say….very kind of you. I’m grateful for your support. I’m playing Organteq every day when I have some spare time (not much). Rubinstein retired from the stage at age 89, so I have hopefully still ”some” years to play Organteq/Pianoteq  :-)

Very nice, Pianoteqenthusiast!

After Gasparka posted a youtube video of the same wonderful Bach BWV 552, with German organist Hans Andre Stamm playing it on the Trost organ (which I believe Bach may also have played at one point, although it wasn't his usual organ), I checked Hans Andre Stamm's own YouTube channel and discovered he is also a gifted composer. Here's an example--

Anyway, your pleasure and joy at playing Organteq is very evident. Thank you for your posts.

Thank you, Stephen, for your kind words and encouragement!  If you could see my face, you’d see the smile you put on it. And now you opened a new door for me to the world of music, posting German organist Hans Andre Stamm playing Echoes. Had to listen and read about him. The way he play is innovative - it is a bit like my ”soft staccatos” in Tribute to Organteq (beginning). My thanks and appreciation.
