Topic: Kawai ES110 vs Korg D1?

Hello - I am new to this forum - and Pianoteq. I like the Pianoteq concept vs the common sampling approach of digital pianos. I have been looking at keyboards in the $600-700 range and, since I am relatively new to piano, I would like to learn on something that feels and sounds as authentic as possible for the price (though I plan to use Pianoteq for the sound).

I am looking at the es110 and the d1 because both are reported to have good keyboard action/feel and they both have standard connectors/line out.

Is there anything about how these keyboards work with Pianoteq that would steer me toward one or the other? Any experiences pro or con with either?

Many thanks!

Re: Kawai ES110 vs Korg D1?

Hi,
I have bought a Korg D1 a couple of months ago and I am so happy with my choice. The keybed feels exactly like the real stuff to me. Besides, all 30 of the onboard sounds are impeccably useful but then I made another spot on decision to buy the Pianoteq Pro 6.6. Ended up buying all their instruments except the steel drums and the rock piano.
Finally, a third critical decision was to scoop out for a Steinberg UR22C. The grand royals now sound truly amazing - at least in my headphones AKG 7XX plugged directly in the UR22C. I have no detectable latency whatsoever and the D1 is much more enjoyable together with Pianoteq.
I can definitely recommend this entire setup.

I am sure you are not looking for the usual "try them first for yourself" answer. So out of those I'd go with the D1 (but not the Korg B1). The ES110 is heaps better than the ES100 but it's still a bit NQR (not quite right) for me... I cannot pin it down but it is not nice and easy to play. I prefer the Roland FP-10 / FP-30 over those (the Kawai and Korg) for similar money. If you are just after a MIDI controller for Pianoteq then, for the money, the FP-10 is a no brainer.

3/2 = 5

Now I’m just choosing a digital piano for myself, so that I can make music at any time and not disturb my neighbors. I am reading this article, where the Kawai ES100 is on the list of digital pianos. My friends say that this is the best option for the money. What do you say?
