Topic: Yamaha AvantGrands (first gen.) MIDI implementation
Hi.
I own a Yamaha AvantGrand N1 (first generation) that I use as a controller for Pianoteq. I think this combination is very good but I have some concerns about the MIDI-implementation in the N1. As you might know the N1 support key positioning but it sends midi messages in a slightly unconventional way. Instead of sending key of velocity it sends aftertouch data and it also uses aftertouch for sending data for silent key-press. For the key positioning/key release it sends aftertouch data from 24-20 and up to 32 if you re-press the key before it has been released. For silent press it sends aftertouch 127 (instead of Velocity 1 that seems to be standard)
Pianoteq doesn’t seem to support this usage of aftertouch data and that means two drawbacks:
1. I can’t use Pianoteq’s support for key off velocity.
2. I can’t play harmonics on a silent note/key press trigged by other keys that match the overtones
AND does anybody know if Pianoteq supports key positioning and slow damper release/half/part dampening done by slow key release and not by the damper pedal?
Perhaps there is someone on this excellent forum that know how to solve this problem, perhaps by converting/mapping MIDI-data to some sort of standard?
Best regards
Johan
