And here's the curve I'm currently using.
Touch set to Hard1.

And here's to somebody who recognises P515 can't even achieve 127! About time it could . . . .my FP50 did.

P.s. default (Medium) curve on P515
Velocity=[0,27,65,106;2,6,64,127]
Dear Yamaha P515 / Pianoteq (7) owners,
The above curve is now by far my favourite. It works beautifully with PTQ7.
Any feed back would be greatly appreciated and if anyone would like an audio demo I'll provide one (although the psychoacoustic experience of actually playing it would be much better). Also I can provide my current .fxp if anyone would like that,
Warmest regards,
Chris
Stay safe all
Today I discovered an acceleration curve on the internet so I thought I might create one in Pianoteq.
Velocity = [1, 19, 37, 55, 73, 91, 127; 2, 6, 14, 30, 62, 126, 127]
Warmest regards,
Chris
Velocity = [0, 13, 109; 1, 3, 127]
This is a more 'snappy feel' curve - some may like it??
Velocity = [0, 14, 105; 2, 6, 127]
Warmest regards,
Chris
I think I had preconceived ideas of what the 'curve' should look like.
I have tried with this linear curve to depart from prejudicial notions and rather to concentrate on how the interaction between sound and touch actually feels.
Here's a preliminary result.
Velocity = [0, 15, 114; 2, 3, 127]
IMPORTANT: to be used with the P515 "Soft Touch 1" setting.
Why linear? You may ask. Because many times whilst using the
PTQ Calibration Assistant, the result has been almost or exactly linear from y 32 to y 96. Let me know your thoughts.
Warmest regards,
Chris
EDIT By the way, a good test to know whether or not a velocity curve is close to what it should be is the efficacy of the soft pedal. Also it is important that the volume of you chosen sound system be high enough to represent a real piano being in your room.
And here is an adjustment on the above curve...
Velocity = [0, 16, 104; 2, 2, 127]
(P515 Soft Touch 1)

Congratulations on these curves. You've worked really hard on them. Thank you. Note on curve along the same lines as my current curve generated in the midi filter of Cantabile.
Warmest regards,
Chris
Congratulations ... Note-on curve along the same lines as mine generated by Cantabile.
That's very interesting isn't it? I looked at VelPro (or whatever the name is) and thought; "I can do that in Excel." For me these curves make the piano sound harder, brighter and it's not really to my taste, but great fun as an adjunct to the U4 Small in what I call my 'school piano' much like I remember all those many, many years ago.
As a side, when I first got the p515 I wasn't sure I'd made the right decision as I had to adapt to it's vastly different touch from my p120s (which I still have and use.) Now, I love it and even the more so with the addition of PianoTeq7. When I go back to the p120s the action is so light and it takes a couple of mins to get back into it again! Not really a problem - just thought I'd share...
Thanks for your feed-back and compliments
I also owned a Yamaha P120S (silver and tan). It was my first full size digital piano. And it cost me almost as much back then as my P515 (white). I find the keys don't rub on the sides on my P515 like they did on the P120. I actually bought a Yamaha NW action to put in my P120 but found it was not compatible so I had to return it.
I am very interested in watching your posts and seeing what you have done and will do with velocity curves for the P515.
Warmest regards,
Stay safe,
Chris
P.s. Ioved your rendition of send in the clowns, beautifully played, thank you.

It's very kind of you to take the time to encourage me; Thanks!
I still have my p120s, which I bought when it was first launched at a special promotion held at Chappels (Bond Street) and it was my first dedicated digital 'piano' keyboard. Many Yamaha keyboards have come and gone since, but I never liked them and simply preferred to cling to my 'special' p120s. It had a problem with the keys at one stage and was fixed without charge as it is one of the early models which used a grease that was detrimental to the keys and caused sticking (so the engineer told me.)
Recently, one of the keys started to play up so I had to take it apart and investigate and since it's thorough clean and hoovering it's been fine - but I worried it might give up, so I looked around for a possible replacement and was tempted by the Casio offering - but too expensive and, I've tried Roland before - but found them too clunky, so I decided to stick with Yamaha and having seen a few on-line demos and reviews decided I'd try the p515.
After a tentative start and adaptation on my part, I now love it! Plus the 'unexpected' addition of PianoTeq I'm like a child in a sweet store - so many pianos at my fingertips and settings to choose from... I feel inspired, like I did many, many years ago when I first started to teach myself the piano and how to read music on a 21-note Chord Organ.

Thank you Smilie.
I've saved the to above curves. I particularly like the sound of the Linear in your first recording here.
Keep experimenting, you're getting some very good results.
Warmest regards,
Chris
Hi Smilie,
Have you any newly generated velocity curves for use with the P515?? I'd be interested to try them if you do.

Since writing this post I've been using
Velocity = [0, 114; 2, 127]
However if you want to be able to play a silent note, it will need altering slightly in the low end.
I find it works really well with the Steinway NY Classical Recording preset which I use with PSP's PianoVerb 2. Let me know if you'd like my settings.
Warmest regards,
Chris

Thanks Chris, always on top of it!
I'll give it a try
My latest offering is a simple linear curve but feels great with my settings.
Velocity = [0, 18, 107; 1, 2, 127]
Or
Velocity = [0, 18, 107; 0, 2, 127]
if you want silence at lowest velocity
If anyone wants my settings let me know.
Warmest regards,
Chris
Hi all,
I've been using pianoteq's y-axis positions in their moderately fast curve as a starting point for curve creation.and have been obtaining some nice results by simply adjusting the points in their x-axis whilst keeping the y as is.
Here is one I made this evening.
Velocity = [0, 8, 18, 31, 50, 74, 104; 0, 5, 15, 30, 54, 86, 127]
For use with the P515's Medium (Default) Touch.
Maybe Massimo and Simone would like to try them and let me know what you think?
Warmest regards,
Chris

Hi P515 owners/lovers,
I'm currently using 0/1 - 105/127 with an S curve (enhance curve) set to -0.10 within Cantabile DAW. I shall plot it out later and post.
Warmest regards,
Chris
And congratulations to those competition entries that made it to the shortlist, well done.
Velocity = [0, 5, 111;1, 1, 127]
Some nice dynamic range and playability.

Thank you Young Eun. I was the one who asked you to post your curve here,
Warmest regards,
Chris
Velocity = [0, 10, 120; 1, 1, 127]
This one works for me very well with Soft Touch 2 on the P515 and the New York Steinway Classical Recording choosing Medium Hall Reverb, Limiter Off (reduced volume to -4.0).
@ Young Eun,
I'd be interested in your opinion if you wish to try this linear velocity curve,
Warmest regards,
Chris
EDIT: Velocity = [0, 10, 125; 1, 1, 127]
This one is smoother.

Velocity = [20, 117; 1, 127]
P515 set to Soft Touch 2
Enjoy
Warmest regards,
Chris
I need to use a sort of like "hard 1" setting but I was never really able to find a proper velocity curve with the Yamaha P-515. I tried many, but I can't find one that makes me go Wow!

I'll keep working on it. I'm using Hard Touch 1 (P515) with the following in Pianoteq at the moment:
Velocity = [1, 116; 1, 127]
It probably needs the dynamic slider tweaking a bit.
Anyway, as I say, I'll keep going...
Warmest regards,
Chris
Hi again Chris,
is there any chance we may chat somewhere like on Telegram about the P-515 by chance please?
If so my contact is TheFlyingCelt

P.s.
Did some work this evening and came up with the following for use with Default (Medium) Touch on P515...
Velocity = [20, 45, 115; 1, 37, 127]
