Topic: Sound system for Pianoteq?

I’m interested in hearing what you all are using for sound systems for your Pianoteq setup. In particular, if anyone is using the Bose S1 Pro. I hear that this monitor is especially good at reproducing acoustic type sounds. This makes it a very attractive choice for things like Pianoteq and I’ll have the opportunity to test one soon (I’ll post what I find here when I do)

Thanks,
Norman

I'm using 2x QSC K8.2s - love the sound from these puppies. But that Bose S1 looks pretty cool too, looking forward to some reviews.

Re: Sound system for Pianoteq?

Norman,

I am using two Yamaha HS80M studio monitors as I use Pianoteq in my project studio.  My audio interface is a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20.  Latency is around 2 ms, so undetectable to me, at sample rate of 48000 Hz and buffer size of 88 samples and max polyphony of 256.  Running on a PC I built 12 years ago (2007).  The PC has an Intel Xeon X5675 overclocked to 4.0 GHz and 24 gig of ram.  Pianoteq sounds fantastic on this combination.

On another note, I do have a sound system in my basement that I have been considering moving upstairs into my project studio area. It consist of two QSC K12.2 and EV Sub.  I'm sure that Pianoteq would sound great through this system, but I have not auditioned it as of yet, but even on the most modest of settings, this would be LOUD!  Should I decide to do it, I'll report the results.

@Groove On - QSC makes killer speakers!

If all things are possible, then it follows that it is possible for something to be impossible.

Re: Sound system for Pianoteq?

I use Focal Solo6 BE monitors and Audeze LCD-X headphones.

Re: Sound system for Pianoteq?

I use ART RM5 active monitors. see my recent post in the "studio monitors buyer's guide for piano playback"  (last posts in the thread) here:

I’ll have to chance to check one out by the end of the week. I did hear it at a friend’s and it sounded great!

Sounds like a great set up, Chris. I’m not familiar with Q Acoustic but it does sound interesting.

I was going to go with the Yamahas at first (now HS8) as I’ve had first hand experience with them. In fact, I still may go with these - depending on how my evaluation of the Bose S1 goes. My work area is on the small side so volume is not much of an issue. I may be able to get by with the HS5 or even smaller.

I’ll check on these. Many options out there to look into - a lot I’ve never heard of. Thanks for the info.

Re: Sound system for Pianoteq?

I'm using Bose L1 Model 2 with the ToneMatch and using it as the USB Speaker. I bought this pair back 10 years ago just for music playback, no live music at all. Then I found PianoTeq by accident last year in September, hooked it up to my old MIDI Controller then hit a note and had instant Ear to Ear grin. I haven't stopped playing it
since.

I'd get a Bose L1 Compact if you're on a budget, It'll blow your mind.

Re: Sound system for Pianoteq?

I started using a pair of generic chinese near field monitors (re branded nady sm250a). But now I'm using an old Mini Hi-Fi Component System (Sony MHC-DX2) which once you remove the effects (bass, EQ, etc) sound better than expected (a little bright)...
