Topic: I need recommendations for 88 controller keyboard/keyboard
Hello all,
I am classically trained pianist and improvise a lot and write my own music (influenced from progressive, classical, blues, jazz, fusion, etc.), i play a yamaha acoustic piano for 31 years now. I had Kurzweil K2500X in the past that i enjoyed (mostly because of its sounds and less because of its keybed) and casio px-5s which i sold after a year because i could not stand its sounds and the keybed is pretty awful, fake so called "tri sensor" and responsiveness was not good.
From what i tried:
Keybeds i like: kronos, montage, xf8, rd-2000, p-255 (surprisingly), mp7se.
Keybed with mixed feelings: I like nord stage 2 keybed but only for synth and hammonds, not for piano, i found it a bit too light for piano. I might like nord piano 4 because it felt a little heavier in touch but not too heavy but i played it just a bit so i don't really have an opinion about it yet.
Keybeds i don't like: CP88 (too heavy), Fatar tp100 (when pressing to the bottom there is unsatisfying feel and the keybed feels a bit cheap and it trembles in middle of the press, Casio keybeds for their fake tri sensor and bad responsiveness.
I heard of VPC1 but i think i may have a problem with its construction.
I am looking for preferably balanced hammer action, heavy enough, but not too heavy, in order to feel right when playing piano sounds but also when playing synth and hammond sounds, basically everything other than piano as well.
I read about Studio logic SL88 Grand and it got my interest. Why am i not buying kronos or the other keyboards i mentioned above? Because some of don't like for other reasons than keybed, i try to save a bit money, i love pianoteq sounds and othe rvst sounds, and i cannot find a second hand kronos or xf8, both are my favorites in terms of keybed and other aspects, montage as well. Kronos is my fav of all in terms of keybed and other aspects if i did not limit my budget - it seem to have the best balance between piano and synth feel and heaviness from what i tried and is a bit lighter than the yamahas.
The thing is, there is no store in which i can test sl88 grand and see if i like it so i'll have to order it and pray i will like it and won't have to sell it... I am very picky about keybeds. I think keyboards should be bought first and foremost for their keybeds and i am willing to sacrifice the absent of knobs and sliders and full size pitch wheel and mod wheel (or stick) for a quality keybed.
1. Can anyone owning the sl88 grand suggest if i may like it according to the preferences i described above? Is it good for fast repetitions? For sounds other than piano? For sliding, will it be hard on my thumb? Are the corners of the keys shaped and not sharp so that they won't cut fingers like some keybeds have when playing big chords for example?
2. Am i missing keyboards i did not mention?
Sorry for the long post, thanks in advance.
