Topic: Beethoven - Appassionata 2nd mov

2nd movement of Beethoven's Appassionata. One of my dear favorites, took special care making this one come alive.
I also finally got a chance to improve the visuals, we got reflections now!
Let me know what you think, hope y'all like it.

Outstanding ...

P.S.  do you make the midi file available?  What piano you use?

Thanks.
I am using the Steinway D 3 mic preset with an additional chain of VSTs.
I do not have any plans to sell or make the the midis public, but I can share this one if you want it.

I agree, really outstanding!

I would also enjoy having the MIDI file for tests purpose.

I'm good on email ... Thanks,

Works for me.  Nice.

Re: Beethoven - Appassionata 2nd mov

Thank you Philippe.

Y'all can download it from here: mega.nz/#!jN8jAQLD!O5NugJsRHxyCOSx6h_Ub...x-K86jRiaQ

Tempo: 120 4/4. I am also using this curve in Pianoteq:
Sustain Velocity = [0, 32, 72, 127; 0, 58, 104, 127]
Just ctrl + v or right click your pedal curve and click paste after copying the line above.

Might sound a little bit different; I rendered the video a while ago and I move the midi every once in a while, this is the latest version.

Thanks Shikopaleta.
I'll study this MIDI file hoping to
learn your 'humanized' MIDI editing.

Curiously enough, that's the name of the tool I use mostly in Reaper, "Humanize". Let me know your findings.

I use Mixcraft 8 Pro Studio.

It has a 'Humanize' MIDI editing feature.

In sections I select,
it automatically adjusts note

1. start time (settings: random, early, late in milliseconds)
2. duration (settings: random, early, late in milliseconds)
3. velocity (settings: randomized in %)

It's a time-saver
for not manually editing every note.

But, for more humanized playback,
I've learned lately to manually edit the

1. first measure note velocity
-> increase to reflect dominant beat

2. section measure note velocities
-> increase or decrease to reflect dynamics
(done in combination with auto 'humanize' feature)

3. section measure note lengths
-> increase, decrease, overlap to reflect articulations and ornaments

4. section measure note tempos
-> decrease or increase to reflect pianist's expressive interpretations

I've seen in your MIDI file

1. Velocity (Note OFF) -
What's the difference with 'Velocity (Note ON)'?
I thought 'Velocity (Note OFF)' is not needed.

2. Hold Pedal -
What's the difference with 'Foot Pedal'?
I thought  'Foot Pedal' was for pedaling with only 0 and 127 values.

3. Soft Pedal - This is an interesting addition.

I'm learning from you.

Thanks...

1 - Note Off - That is for the visualizer, the way it's setup it "releases" the key with a note-off event, I think you can safely ignore it, I don't hear any difference without it.
2 - I have no idea what's the difference, channel 64 is what is used for the Sustain Pedal, and it indeed has a range of 0 to 127. Might be just a name difference if it's in the same channel.
3 - Soft Pedal, or channel 67 is indeed a really nice addition; it gives the notes a slightly mellower and thinner sound.

I use humanize as a starting point, what takes time is manually adjusting each note after "humanizing". I usually go in intervals of like 3-5 seconds and adjust.
Depending on the level I want to achieve, it takes like 10 minutes to adjust 5-10 seconds of audio for pieces that I really like.

Thank you very much Shikopaleta! Sorry for the late reply, I discovered your post right now.
