Topic: Audio Deluxe special on Mic Room with free Metric Halo delay
I don't want to get into a discussion about the realism or accuracy of these emulations. They provide interesting variations on the sound, regardless. The Dirty Delay is free with any order this month, which is almost over, and the IK Multimedia Mic Room is on sale for $10.00 US. Ten dollars, for both of these programs, seems to me very good.
To use the Mic Room, you must download and install the free version of T-Racks, and that means first downloading the IK Multimedia installer. A bit of a hassle, but many companies are using similar programs these days. (You MUST add the tape delay manually to your cart. Don't expect it to appear automatically. Once you add it to the cart and go to the next screen, the discount will be applied.)
I can understand suspicions about any mic modelling program. Here's a review, with good sound samples, that sums up my own view--the emulations of the target mics may not be ideal, but the results are still interesting and usable: http://www.voicecouncil.com/review-ik-m...n-plug-in/ . Scroll down the page to find the sound samples.
Haven't tried it as an insert on a track with Pianoteq, yet, but for vocals, it's much more than just a toy. And the Metric Halo delay sounds good, with separate delays for the left and right channel, and the ability to set filters on the delay.
