Topic: Help a noob set up his VPC1 w/ a Steinberg UR22..

Hey y'all -

I just got a Kawai VPC1 and I'm having trouble setting it up. I want to utilize my Steinberg UR22 & the VPC editor in conjuncture with Pianoteq 6 Stage.
have the midi out going through the interface, which is no different then the setup I used with my Yamaha p85. The problem is that I have no idea how to use the Kawai VPC editor (which requires a USB connection to my PC) while also routing through my interface. I had hoped that I could use the VPC1's USB out directly into the UR22, but the interface does not have USB in. Pretty much at a loss here.

Here's a picture of my feeble attempt..

While I’ve a Yamaha P-95 MIDI out going to a MOTU Micro Lite, that MIDI interface connects via USB to my iMac.  The iMac sends audio signals to a Focusrite audio interface, though I could just as well send MIDI from the P-95 directly to the audio interface as you did with your P-85 and UR22.

Per your diagram, MIDI from your controller to the interface is redundant. Therefore, remove the MIDI cable!

On an iMac, I’m unfamiliar with your PC.

Hi there,

your Midi Out to your Audio interface is not correct. The VPC1 does not create any sounds on its own, hence, what should your midi out do?
The midi out of the VPC1 is made in case you have ANOTHER keyboard you use into the midi-in of the VPC1, then you could use the midi-out of the VPC1.

Your set-up is simply. VPC1 via USB to your Laptop and your laptop connected with the Audio Interface via USB.
In your sound settings you can select the audio interface as your primary sound card then. So, VPC via USB to laptop, laptop via usb to UR22.
Open Pianoteq, select your Steinberg as your sound card in settings and you should be ok.

BTW the VPC1 and Pianoteq are incredible together! Have fun

I use this option as suggested by lovelovemale. Although I have UR12. Just in case, I power the VPC1 from the network. Although the keyboard is not a big consumer of energy.
I have no problems with delays.
