Topic: One Waltz - Six Pianos plus now the 1922 Erard

1. Bluethner
2. Steinway D
3. Steinway B
4. Grotrian

5. Erard (1849)
6. Pleyel (1835)

Feel free to skip around to discover what you like best. I picked pre-sets that simply made each piano sound best - so I know this is surely not an even playing field. My two favorites are one of the Steinways and one of the historical pianos. Let me know of your own favorites.

Greetings from San Francisco.

George

P.S. I am adding the Erard (1922), a piano highly favored by Faure and Ravel among others.

for me the Grotrian and the Steinway D

I like the Steinway D, though the B is still pretty nice though without the strength in the bottom.

I like the Bluethner (and Steinway B). I had forgotten how good Bluethner is. Thanks for this comparison. About time to use Bluethner again (sounds like preset Concert recording with a bit more recerb?).

Re: One Waltz - Six Pianos plus now the 1922 Erard

Well... I kind of like them all in different ways, but my favourites here are Steinway B and Pleyel, closely followed by Grotrian. Interesting that you went for the 1800s Erard and Pleyel rather than the 1900s models, and used a low-pitch setting of the Pleyel. Are you going to reveal which presets you actually used?

Re: One Waltz - Six Pianos plus now the 1922 Erard

For me, Grotrian, then Steinway D.

BTW, have you noticed the discrepancy between the six waveforms ?

PS. Très jolie ta petite valse !

Thanks, guys -

Nice hearing which pianos appealed most to you.
As per request, hear are the pianos/presets:

1. Bluethner Model One AB
2. Steinway D Classical Recording AB (probably my favorite here)
3. Steinway B Distant Mic
4. Grotrian Recording 2

5. Erard (1849) Recording
6. I. Pleyel Werkmeister III (1835) (my 2nd favorite - especially as the notes get into the higher register)
