Topic: Feature Request: Better screen layout

I just purchased Pianoteq PRO a week or so ago. I love all the sounds...but I find the screen layout unsatisfactory. Even in "full screen" mode, there is about 50% of unused space. The interface is square and EVERY laptop is rectangular.

Choosing different pianos requires too many awkward mouse clicks. I can't imagine changing sounds in a real performance situation.

It would be great if there was a more imaginative layout architecture.

Are there any plans for improving the interface? Does anyone have any other thoughts about this?

Re: Feature Request: Better screen layout

I do agree that there's to much unused space.
I use a small 5 inch screen and a large part is unused,
so some of the buttons are very small while there is plenty of unused space.

Re: Feature Request: Better screen layout

one thing i do to take advantage of the extra horizontal space, at least while experimenting with effects, mike positions, etc, is to pop out smaller windows and place them next to the main window.  this way one can see a lot of extra stuff at the same time.

nevertheless, i definitely would like to see a "landscape mode" optional layout for the main window.  this way i could make the fonts a lot bigger.  it would be much better for my bad eyes and the small screen on the laptop connected to my keyboard.

Re: Feature Request: Better screen layout

I don't think landscape mode makes sense. You can pop out FIVE windows from Pianoteq and fill two monitors with them, really... Like so:

This is a LOT more flexible than any landscape mode IMO.

You can assign program change messages to each preset if you need to switch them on the fly. But do note that A|B button is the fastest way to do so, because those two patches are preloaded into memory and there's no pause when switching between them.

Re: Feature Request: Better screen layout

I agree with EvilDragon. Pianoteq and its functionality is or can be compact when necessary, and expansively laid out when wanted.

I regularly drag the presets window away from the main window (the area that allows the window to be dragged and detached from the main window appears when one positions the mouse close to the top edge of the subwindow) to quickly choose between different presets, and detach and move the Effects, Equalizer, and Sound Recording windows, as well as the Options window to monitor performance indications or MIDI messages, so that all of those windows are visible as I use Pianoteq.

It is precisely because Pianoteq’s main window does not occupy so much horizontal or vertical space that this is all possible even on just one monitor.

They they did the more people will ask :

Re: Feature Request: Better screen layout

I was about to say the square format is fine - multiple of instances of stand alone PTQ fits nicely on a rectangular screen as they would if hosted within a DAW.  Mr. Ed said it first.

Re: Feature Request: Better screen layout

Also the Stage version fills a screen completely if the use is for performance and simple instrument switching.

Re: Feature Request: Better screen layout

the pop-outs in the pix look great.  those are awesome layouts.  that is exactly what i do at times, especially when rendering and experimenting, and certainly i would never ask that this feature be removed.

however, when i'm playing at the keyboard, with my (admittedly small) laptop that's dedicated to the task, i don't have multiple large screens available to me.  i would love to have the default window (in standard, i don't have stage) able to be laid out in a landscape format so that i can make the font as large as possible.

another possibility would be to be able to pop out/tear off the "Output" half of the screen (including the keyboard) to move it over to the side.  this would make a diy landscape arrangement possible.

either of these would help my (terrible) eyes.  but of course i'd rather that developer time be spent improving models, etc., instead of this.

@Beto - where's your flight simulator or driving controls to go with those three wrap-around screens?!

Re: Feature Request: Better screen layout

I’d like to see a last opened windows positions remembered feature implemented, if it is possible!

Pianoteq launches relatively quickly.  However, if you always opt for customized windows whenever you launch, as I do, your having to manually rearrange or reposition them after each launch appears slow and unnecessarily tedious.  It is counterproductive and counterintuitive to me as it seems to negate fast launch times altogether, or readily available and viewable areas overall at each software start.

Pianoteq 8 Studio Bundle, Pearl malletSTATION EM1, Roland (DRUM SOUND MODULE TD-30, HandSonic 10, AX-1), Akai EWI USB, Yamaha DIGITAL PIANO P-95, M-Audio STUDIOPHILE BX5, Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 DSP.

Re: Feature Request: Better screen layout

I agree that storing positions and dimensions of torn off windows would definitely be a very welcome feature.
