Topic: Midwinter's Night

Recorded with Pianoteq's Steinway D, distant mics.

This is another piece from my upcoming method book, it's a bit more challenging and will be placed towards the end of the series. Hope you enjoy it. Download the sheet music at no cost within the next week using this link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1JtxKh...5r0ghmpoiI

Wow. The opening and closing sections have a sort of Sibelian sense of stillness, capturing the wintry mood perfectly.
Presumably you will add some sort of tempo indication to the final publication?

Re: Midwinter's Night

Thanks, I do love Sibelius.

And yes, this sheet music still needs editing/cleaning up. The tempo will likely be notated as adagio, I wouldn't expect many intermediate students to get the middle section as fast as I take it.

Always impressed with your wonderful music. I think you will be short-changing yourself putting this great stuff into the educational market. You will get bad performances and you will not make much money - believe me. Worst of all, teachers will start photocopying your music. Need I say more?

You probably want to get this to those music library companies that will get your music placed on TV and in film, or possibly live theatre situations. To make those initial connections, you might want to join TAXI MUSIC. They connected me up with ScoreKeepers Music who has managed to get my stuff placed all over cable TV plus a couple films. BMI tracks performances very nicely these days, and those checks come in once or twice a year.

Best wishes,

Re: Midwinter's Night

Thanks so much George,

I appreciate your brutal honesty regarding the education market! I've got some music published in a few different venues, and yes, always a challenge to get significant income. I have a slightly atypical plan for selling this educational material, but definitely still a gamble.

I've looked into TAXI in the past but haven't given them a try. I might have to. A couple questions if you don't mind:

1) When selling music via TAXI or the like, are music rights granted generally perpetual/exclusive, or does it vary depending on the group using it?

2) Do do find BMI better than ASCAP for what you do with your compositions?

All the best,

Re: Midwinter's Night

I sent you a personal message on the two questions asked. Hope you got it.

Re: Midwinter's Night

Beautiful melodic lines and rich harmonic texture underlying the superficial simplicity of this piece.
