Topic: Why don't we have a 'tips and tricks' section on the forum?

There's a wealth of valuable technical information on the forum, but it's often really difficult to find it all. Search for 'microphones' or 'mics', for example, and you'll probably have to wade through a load of random comments which include those words before finding anything useful. So why not have a proper 'tips and tricks' section, divided into sub-categories, such as 'Setting up' (equipment, connections, buffer sizes, etc.), 'Tuning', 'Microphones', 'Reverb', and so on? Does this sound like a good idea? I'm sure it would be possible.

I used to run a forum for a club. The problem with having lots of sub-forums is that if they don't get many posts, they seem to be dead and no one reads them. Meanwhile, the posts that do go into them with useful information are not seen by the majority of people who stay in the main forum.

The other tack is to put all the posts in one main forum, and hope the search forum is good enough to turn up whatever specialized topic you're looking for.  I usually use an external search engine rather than one from within the site; far better results that way.

Perhaps tags rather than a hierarchical structure.  Not sure how much effort that is to set up / maintain, but it should avoid the problems tfort mentions.
