Topic: OT but in need of posting: Fire extinquisher that uses only sound

From CNN:

The obvious question--can this be synthesized in such a way that one could have speakers in every room, and just play a note to stop a house fire? Well, I know it sounds absurd, but the video says otherwise, doesn't it?

Re: OT but in need of posting: Fire extinquisher that uses only sound

That fire extinguisher with sound is nothing more than a "fan" or air blower that uses low frequency pitch to aim the stream of air at it.   Notice how the "extinguisher" is a rather long tube with a comparatively small hole in one end.  This is where the sound-induced wind comes from.  Notice how close the person needs to position the sound extinguisher to put out the fire.  This would be impractical to implement in something as large as a residential room.

Scientists discoverd a amazing agent to extinguish flames, water.
No kidding... Water if applied as a extremelly thin water drops, so thin that evaporates very quickly in contact with heat, produces a lot of vapor in such amount that blows oxigen away, and the water itself steal the heat and cool thing, so both ways help to kill the fire.  It much more efficient whan large drops of water.

It works in class A,B,C and even D fires

Re: OT but in need of posting: Fire extinquisher that uses only sound

Seems as though we need an amp that sprays water to combine the features of both extinguishers--moving air and a fine spray of water. Would also be popular at big outdoor concerts in the summer. A little disappointed that the air vibrations (sound) alone won't quite suffice. That would lead to the obvious questions about what music to play to extinguish a fire (Heavy metal to put a thick blanket of moving air over a house fire?) along with a new breed of vst synths that promised to emulate a B3 and put out forest fires.

Couldn't help noticing that one video for the mist extinquishers included the text "Safe for...animals." How, exactly, did they test that? (Here, kitty, kitty...?)

I keep a bag of popcorn in every room of the house. When I hear the popcorn pop, I know it's time to evacuate.

Pianoteq 6 Std, Bluthner, Model B, Grotian, YC5, Hohner, Kremsegg #1, Electric Pianos. Roland FP-90, Windows 10 quad core, Xenyx Q802USB, Yamaha HS8 monitors, Audio Technica

It's not just like a fan that kill fire. A fan if not increadebly strong would worse the fire.
It works in a small area, so any fire larger than this area would reignite when you try to put pout another area near it.

From wikipedia about the sound fire extinguisher :

"In 2015, researchers announced that high volume sound in the 30 to 60 hertz range drives oxygen away from the combustion surface, extinguishing the fire. One proposed application is to extinguish fires in outer space, with none of the clean-up required for mass-based systems."

Well, someone could tell some "smart" people that outer space is a vacuum, and fire can't exist in vacuum.

Anyway it can't be used with a drone, since a drone to carry such huge thing would need to be very large, and the wind created by the drone's blades would worse the fire. And as said, it works in small areas of fire and any large fire and the would reignity from fire near it.
