Topic: Pianoteq Audio into AvantGrand?

I've had some people ask if Pianoteq would work well with their AvantGrands (Yamaha). I haven't tried this myself, but remember reading a long time ago that if you feed Pianoteq's audio into the AvantGrand there could be problems with it not playing back quiet sounds. Perhaps Yamaha has some sort of noise gate for incoming audio? Anyway, perhaps someone with an AvantGrand would be kind enough to say if this is indeed an issue. Maybe Yamaha fixed this with a firmware update? I assume there would be no MIDI problems.

Many thanks.

.

I have the Yamaha NU1. No problems here at all. It has a builtin squelch (noise mute) function, but you can switch it off.
Looking at the manuals the N1, N2 and maybe also N3 models do not have the option to switch the squelch off.
But the new N3X now has this function. So the newer NU1 and N3X will work, the older N1-3 models may cause problems below a certain level.

Just had a look at the N3 manual, as expected no squelch off function.
But on N1 to 3 it should help to set the output volume from the computer/audio system as high as possible
an set the volume at the Avant Grand at a very low level. So the sqelch circuit at the AvantGrand input "sees" a much higher level,
hopefully above the muting threshold.

Re: Pianoteq Audio into AvantGrand?

Very helpful, I do appreciate it.

Re: Pianoteq Audio into AvantGrand?

I've just started using PT with my Avantgrand N2, sending the PT output back through the Line Ins to the N2, using a mix of about 40% PT to 60% N2 sound. The result through headphones is excellent (I use the D4 Intimate preset/Binaural). I don't have any problems with soft note cut-off.

Does anyone have a tried and tested velocity curve for the N2?

I've tried using the Velocity calibration tool, but it tells me there's no Note Off values for instance, so I'm not quite sure how to optimise it.

Re: Pianoteq Audio into AvantGrand?

I ran a line out from my laptop running Pianoteq into my N1, and everything is fine except the volume is too low -- maybe half of the N1's normal volume. Turning the volume up in Pianoteq helps but causes distortion. Can anyone recommend a preamp or another solution?

Re: Pianoteq Audio into AvantGrand?

I had a similar experience with Roland LX-17 as the volume via line in was low at first. Adjusting the velocity curve and picking the right internal volume seemed to have solved this. I have not done actual measurements though, could do with some sound meter on iPad.
