Topic: Volume Limiter - When would I want it "On" or "Off"?

Except for induced distortion for a rock band instrument, I don't think that "pegging the meters" is ever a good thing.

That being said, then when would I want to have the Volume Limiter "Off" versus "On"?

And what it it actually doing anyhow?

It's doing what a limiter does...

If you're not pegging the meters, you can have it off, but if you want to be safe not to clip your soundcard's outputs (which is NEVER a good thing), keep it on.

Hard work and guts!

Thanks.  So, depending upon its architecture, it can be anything from a high cut, to a graduated high output compressor (of which this type must be).

Pianoteq's limiter is a hard limiter - if signal goes over the threshold, it is brickwalled there (chopped off).
