Topic: Running Pianoteq on Windows 7 with a Kawai ES100 - not working

Hello - novice player and especially, MIDI user and setter-upper. I have researched this but it sounds like it "should just work" and my setup does not. I am also in contact with Pianoteq support.

Would like to be able to play my new ES100 through Pianoteq, running on my Windows 7 PC - 16GB RAM, Quad processor, 4 years old but still fairly beefy.

I have a iConnectivity mio 1-in 1-out USB to MIDI Interface for Mac and PC convertor (great reviews, not inexpensive) which installed with a "mio" driver, running directly from my ES100 to my PC.

I've installed Pianoteq, with the ASIOFORALL v2 driver.

Pianoteq "sees" mio as an active MIDI input (per the "Options > Devices" page) and I am able to get sound coming from the Pianoteq built-in "test" and virtual keyboard to my computer speakers.

But .... Pianoteq doesn't seem to recognize anything coming from my ES100 (have verified MIDI cable plugged in correctly). As an example, when I try and run "Calibration", it senses nothing from the ES100 and of course, I hear nothing.

Should my setup work? Or, do I need some sort of intermediate processing device to plug the MIDI/USD cable to and then that device to my PC?

Thanks for any help - Mike

Mike,

I have Stage working fine from my Yamaha Tyros 5.   Have you checked the Windows mixer for the midi volume slider which should now be ticked and active?

a few things to check:
- connection... MIDI in into MIDI out and vice-versa? Check twice ! ;-)
- is the MIDI channel the same in Pianoteq and the Kawai ?
It SHOULD definitely work

Re: Running Pianoteq on Windows 7 with a Kawai ES100 - not working

Thanks for the responses!

- don't show a MIDI device in any of the Windows sound settings. Wondering if this is a symptom of whatever the core problem is

- the MIDI connection on the computer side is my USB interface from my MIDI/USB cable. On the ES100 side, I have triple-checked the MIDI out/in connections

- I have the channel set to "any" in pianoteq and tried setting it to 1 and 2, still didn't work. The default MIDI channel on the ES100 is 1.

Will also post my question on some ES100 forums

Thanks again - any other pointers welcome - Mike

I would check the MIDI connection ideed...

Re: Running Pianoteq on Windows 7 with a Kawai ES100 - not working

Thanks Luc. MIDIOX "sees" mio (driver for my MIDI>USB cable) but doesn't seem to recognize any keystrokes from my ES100 piano.

My guess at a next step is to try another MIDI>USB converter cable though the one I have has straight 5 star reviews on Amazon (40+ of them). Trying and failing another type of cable, I guess I'd try some kind of box to plug my ES100 MIDI into.

Re: Running Pianoteq on Windows 7 with a Kawai ES100 - not working

Perhaps somebody else running Windows 7 can post a screenshot of their Devices tab so you can compare if the USB MIDI driver is missing or not on your system.

Re: Running Pianoteq on Windows 7 with a Kawai ES100 - not working

apart from keystrokes, you could check if the MIDIOX sees other MIDI messages: pedal on/off and program changes for example (you have to make this function active in the ES100 however). If not, there is definitively a problem with the mio or the ES100 but a MIDI interface is (much!) cheaper to find for a test. I use the least expensive I found, a "no-name", and it works just fine...

Re: Running Pianoteq on Windows 7 with a Kawai ES100 - not working

Which type of MIDI interface are you talking about (other than the MIDI > USB one I'm using) and what do you use?

Thanks, may try that though the one I have had straight all 5 star reviews on Amazon, with no problems.

Will report back here when I get some resolution to this .....
