Topic: Help! What preset/piano does this song sound like?

Hey all,

I'm a proud new pianoteq user I recorded something a few days back and I've been trying desperately to recreate the sound but I've been unable to. Here's the clip of the song:

https://pianissimo.bandcamp.com/track/untitled

It's definitely using a preset that *has* been modified ... but I don't know which one. For that matter, I don't even know which piano it is (I have very untrained ears!). It was definitely either D4 or Bluthner and I believe that most likely it was Bluthner. Apart from changing presets, the other changes I've been making have either been reverb (minor modifications) or mic number/positions (more significant modifications).

Could anyone out there with a well trained ear lead me in the right direction?

I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid/ridiculous request Thanks for any help!

Re: Help! What preset/piano does this song sound like?

Hello Tim,

This could be achieved with either the D4 or the Blüthner.  Just notice that the person is playing with the damper pedal depressed throughout the whole piece ... don't confuse heavy damper pedaling with a lot of reverb.  They are different.

Just go with one of the Daily or Close Mike Jazz presets.  Rather than messing with the microphone placement, simply reduce the dynamic range to only about 20dB, and adjust the volume slider to between -6dB and -9dB.
Why?  That's because the piano sounds close up, loud and heavily pedaled.

If you really want to achieve this "sound", then use inordinate amounts of right pedal (not my cup of tea, but that wasn't the question).

Cheers,

Joe
