Topic: Noisless PC

We all seek performance and absence of noise from our PC/laptops.
The latest fanless mini pc format offer the celeron J1900 with a benchpass of approx. 1950, so is probably just about sufficient.
There are other fanless units using i74500u cpu, but although "fanless", I wonder both which motherboard is being used and what is the cpu cooling method.
Anyone with knowledge of this, it might be an interesting project.

Some further thoughts.
1, mini-ITX board such as Asus H971
2, i7/i5 cpu low wattage T range (or R or S)
3, heat pipe cooling to metal finned case
4, silent power supply
5, suitable ssd drive, no optical drive, use usb3 sticks instead.
6. get a lenovo "tiny" and forget it all.!

I think that you can build a bespoke system for 30% of their price

Re: Noisless PC

Maybe you can, yes.

Not sure how many hours it would take you researching the components, ordering them all from dabs.com, making sure you are home for them to be delivered, building it, testing it.... so you need to factor all that into the price. How much is your time worth per hour?

It has a fan and a harddisk, I would not call it "Noiseless".  1 GHz is not enough with older CPUs in my opinion.

cheers

Re: Noisless PC

That should work perfectly in my opinion. I use a very similar PC as private (linux-)workstation:

The celeron 1037u has a benchpass mark of 1780 which is regarded as OK by many, although a forum member has stated that for maximum latency/function etc, a minimum of 2000 pasmark is desirable

Just for interest I installed the PTQ trial version on my 1037u-workstation and I get a Performance index of 33 out-of-the-box (which means: no realtime optimizations, no cpu-frequency tweaks, pianoteq with D4 daily practice, 48000 Hz 64 samples, Blues Demo).

With my Bay-trail Netbook, that I use for playing PTQ, I have a performance index of 22 and even with that absolutely no latency issues (1,3 ms nominal).

I know, that Performance indices are more a rule-of-thumb, but is a Celeron 1037u not also better than mobile Bay Trail in other benchmarks?

cheers

I confess to ignorance on this, but I have a Lenovo m93p tiny with a pentium g3220t and seems no problems.
I havent tried my laptop with a T9300 cpu, but it will probably be OK

Re: Noisless PC

I use the Fit-PC2, running Linux Mint, and it works sufficiently well for me. Took some time to set up with the correct drivers etc., and I have attached a small (7") touch screen, and use that setup when playing gigs (and as home, as I prefer practicing on the setup I am going to use on the road).

I have tried with a Windows installation on the Fit-PC, but Windows eats all CPU power, so Linux is the only choice as I see it.

Hardware: Studiologic SL 88s + SL Mixface, Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, Lenovo Yoga I5 Windows 10 Pro
VST host: Cantabile
Other instruments: hammond (GSi VB3 II), saxophone (Selmer), harmonicas (Hohners)

Aren't there several versions of Fit-PC2 over the years? I once had something based on an AMD Geode single-core, guess named LX-something. But it just had around 500-800MHz cpu-freq. It was one of my first passively cooled PCs (but was getting really hot). Is that really enough on that platform to play without noticeable latency??  Or which specs does it have?

I built a PC based on a review of components found at: http://silentpcreview.com/ It turned out to be quite quiet indeed. But to your point, it did take a lot of time - although I did save a fair bit of cash.
