I find this extremely interesting, but I can't see the necessity of getting the keys from and older piano and then sawing them to fit.  I would rather have entirely plastic keys using fully stabilized plastic.

http://www.qrsmusic.com/PNOScan.asp - this attracted my interest badly. Seems it is possible to make a decent controller by yourself with this device.

It appears a comparatively primitive  prototype does exist.
