Topic: KVIR/upgrade problem with Mac

I have just tried to upgrade from PT5 to 5.1 - no problem as far as I could see, because I upgraded in order to download the new KVIR instruments, so I didn't check the whole PT interface, except it is 5.1.  Having downloaded the KVIR ptqs, I tried to drop them in to the PT interface.  They just disappeared, as did the download folder.  I then found the download folder on the HDD - still don't know how to reinstall it into the dock.  This time I tried to drop the ptq in to the preset window.  Got confused - no KVIR instruments appeared - so dropped three other PT files sitting in the download folder.  Each time PT told me that new ptqs would appear in the preset window.

Result: instead of having all the presets, including mine, for the D4, K2 and Bluethner, I now only have the D4 presets.  At the moment, disaster.  (I use, almost exclusively, the Bluethner with my own presets and my own velocity curve - daren't look to see if that's gone too)

Any help would be most gratefully received.  I had, as it happened, just done a back up of the HDD.  Any foolproof way of uninstalling PT and restoring version 5 from the back up, then doing it properly, however that may be done?  I am always wary of uninstalling, feels kind of scary .....

Re: KVIR/upgrade problem with Mac

Panic (nearly) over.  For some reason, PT5.1 loaded with the preset manager on D4 only.  I think I still have my Bluethner settings and I certainly appear to have a Grimaldi harpsichord and a Schantz piano.  Will test everything, but assume if I do not re-post with a problem that PT is OK.  Hopefully this avoids people spending unnecessary time helping me with a non-existent problem.  However, if any Mac user has a quick fix for the disappearing download folder from the dock, I would be grateful.

Re: KVIR/upgrade problem with Mac

Are the presets really gone or only from the drop-down menu. In that case, maybe there is a selection active in the preset manager.

Re: KVIR/upgrade problem with Mac

Thanks for the response.  Yes, 5.1 loaded with just the D4 selected.  All the instruments and my presets seem to be there.  Sorry for the panic, I have been playing the Bluethner exclusively for so long, with my preset of the D4 in the B slot that I had forgotten that the presets can be selected by instrument.

My routine for playing PT is so simple: switch ES7 on, take reverb off, set touch to heavy, take local control off, fire up PT, play.  (As the Bluethner was always there, ready)  Almost as easy as opening the piano lid! I'm out of touch with alternatives and tweaks.

Re: KVIR/upgrade problem with Mac

I am having a problem with the update. I have tried downloading the 9.3 mb KIViR.ptq file twice now. When I drag it into Pianoteq, it says the instruments were successfully added. However, in the Preferences - Instruments tab, next to the KIViR file it says "status: file corrupt or truncated."

It does not appear that the newer instruments have loaded. Any ideas?

Re: KVIR/upgrade problem with Mac

I had that same problem until I downloaded and installed the latest version of Pianoteq. Have you done that yet? For me all the instruments especially the Erard and Pleyel have a muted dull sound that I have been unable to brighten.  Hope you don't have that issue.

Re: KVIR/upgrade problem with Mac

Thank you, that worked—didn't know I had to update Pianoteq first.
