Topic: Importing Pianoteq midi file into Sibelius

Anyone using Sibelius for notating Pianoteq midi files? For some reason it writes the file on one stave but not two. I've tried different import settings in Sibelius but it always comes out on just one treble stave. I'm sure there are work-arounds like using a  separate sequencer or recording directly into Sibelius but I like the fact that I can just play in Pianoteq and if something turns out good, save the midi file and go to Sibelius for the transcription. Throwing other stuff into the mix would probably lessen the spontaneity. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Importing Pianoteq midi file into Sibelius

I am using Sibelius 7.5. When I import a midi file I sometimes will get a two hand part on one staff. I create a new instrument with 2 staves (e.g. a piano) and copy and paste from the single staff into the top staff of the 2-stave instrument. Then I use the re-notate performance plugin in sibelius to distribute it across the 2-stave piano part. some further use of simplify notation plugins can be useful, but you can experiment to see what works best. You can change split point between hands for the whole piece or select areas that require a new split point for better layout of the notation. There is a lot of manipulation that can be done with the plugins to fairly quickly bring your score to a readable condition.
It may take some time to get familiar with some of the plugins, but it is well worth the time spent since you will save a lot of editing time when you have figured out what plugin tools do what.
Good luck,
Steve
