Topic: Calibration problem with Roland DP-10 pedal

Not sure if this is the right place to post this.... but here goes.

I have a Roland DP-10 half-damper pedal that has a problem with its calibration: for some time now, the lowest possible value sent by the pedal (ie. when it is not pressed down) oscillates between low values like 4 and all the way up to around 20 (out of a maximum of 127 when fully pressed down). I've even had this go up to around 40 or so!!!! This is really annoying when recording notes in Renoise, because each time the pedal decides to randomly change value - when i'm not touching it - the midi message with this value gets inserted in Renoise.

Taking the pedal apart, i see there's a plastic part that is attached to a potentiometer on a small PCB, this plastic part is lowered by the pedal when pressed down, and this turns the potentiometer. This whole assembly is held to the pedal by two screws placed diagonally. I tried loosening one or both of the screws, this "kind of" improves the situation but never fixes it completely. And if i do manage to fix it by "screwing" around with those two screws (ie. pedal sends zero when releasing it completely) ...after some usage the problem returns.

...anyone else have been using this kind of pedal, and any ideas on how i can fix this?

Re: Calibration problem with Roland DP-10 pedal

Had a similar problem with a Kawai F-30 unit. Just tipping on the sustain resulted in wild value swings, and sometimes even looking at it seemed to be sufficient for values to be sent. Any halfway controlled pedalling was more or less impossible that way; I called the manufacturer and hat it replaced under warranty. I think the problem in both cases was/is a broken potentiometer, and there is probably not much you can do about it, other that replace the pedal.

I had the same problem with that pedal. I just bent the thin metal strip inside the pedal and it fixed the problem. Can't say if it will permanently fix it though as I brought a Casio px350 with the 3 pedal unit a couple of days later. If you brought it recently, can you exchange it for another one?

Good luck.
