Before I tried Pianoteq I had bought their "Braunschweig upright", whose strength also was in the lines of what you describe, the bass was fine there too. The mp3 njaremko linked to is a demo from the imperfect samples Steinway grand.
(1908 Walnut concert grand, it says). One can listen to further demos there, just to get an impression.
Once I exchanged a few mails with the man, and he stressed that those "imperfections" can make a piano sound great.
Since I tried pianoteq, I did not buy other pianos of them, but yes, this sound is very nice too. Now how to get similar sounds with our beloved pianoteq ...
