Topic: Request: legacy v4 Bluethner please?

Just as others noticed the difference between v4 and v5 models of the D4, I’ve noticed a great difference between the v4 and v5 Bluethner sounds. Again, I’m not doubting it’s an improvement, but for those of us who will still wish to make use of the slightly mellower sound of the v4 version, can you make legacy patches available to those of us who purchased the Bluethner pack? (I know it’s possible to load in Pianoteq 4 but when auditioning loads of sounds, comparing back and forth, that can become very cumbersome.)

Also, may I suggest that in future upgrades, or whenever you completely rework a the modelling, as appears to be the case with the recent release of Pianoteq 5, that instead of replacing each sound without changing the names, you simply give each new version a unique name? This will allow easier support for legacy sounds, and help avoid confusion in the forums when talking about them.

I remain a huge fan (and am very much enjoying the extensive mic modelling in v5), and hope you’ll take these requests and constructive criticisms in the positive light with which they're intended.

Re: Request: legacy v4 Bluethner please?

I know I may be beginning to sound like a cracked record (o.k. I'm giving my age way.. recorded music used to be on bakalite then vinyl disks that could get damaged, rather than downloading from the internet ), but I once again have to agree
However, I am still unsure as to exactly "where" the new sound comes from.. is it just because of the P5 engine, or was the piano itself actually "reworked"? (I know that for the D4 and the YC5, they were redone from scratch, and I haven't really had the time to do detailed comparisons of all instruments between v4 and v5… I start to do so, then that pesky piano sounds so wonderful that I end up actually playing it! lol)
But it is true that, whenever I run the Bluethner in Pianoteq 4, I get that same overwhelming sensation as when it was first released.. it is an absolutely magic sound.. and I find it a great pity that it is not still available as an alternative in Pianoteq 5.
(and, please, let's not repeat the "why don't you just keep v4 installed as well?" argument.. that can only be a temporary solution ).

Re: Request: legacy v4 Bluethner please?

if you want a more mellow sound like 4.5, plus the enhanced qualities of version 5, superior tone and sustain resonance. try the following. go to mallet bounce and switch it on, then set the delay bounce and and delay loss to the far left.

the high frequency attack over tones are now of a shorter duration, and you also have a fuller more " woody " tone than previously available. i would additionally switch off the delay as well, as you may no longer need that to " fill " out the attack phase. the delay loss can vary the amount of high frequency curtailment by moving from the left to the far right.

the only problem is sometimes the dynamics of playing " fff " do not play correctly.
