Topic: Upgrade questions

Thanks to EvilDragon spreading the news far and wide on other forums, I'm now counting down the hours to the end of the working day until I can go home and upgrade!

Being a fairly new PT user – coupled with what looks to be a slightly different approach with the three flavours of PT5 – I'm not certain how the upgrade process works.

I currently have PT4 Stage with the Rock Collection add-on. Obviously after the upgrade I'll have PT5 Stage. Presumably the YC5, Rhody and Wurly will still work, is that right (with the YC5 benefitting from the sound improvements)?

Is a choice of flavour made during upgrade, or is that only relevant to new purchases of PT5? In terms of acoustic pianos, what will be available after the upgrade? Presumably I'll still have D4, which will also benefit from the improved model. Does PT4's K1 upgrade to K2, or does that have to be bought separately?

(Whilst I'm here, I'd also just like to say a big thank you to Modartt, not only for creating such great software, but for supporting Linux as well. I also think it's really nice that they read and respond in these forums, which are a great resource, I've been lurking since I bought PT in January.)

PTQ Std: Blüthner, K2, YC5, Steinway D, Kremsegg 2, Celeste, Hohner, Electric pianos

Re: Upgrade questions

All add-ons will work with any of the three main versions of Pianoteq. K1 remains as it is, K2 is a whole new piano.

Hard work and guts!

Re: Upgrade questions

The choice of package only seems relevant to new users. I just received the D4 and K2 after upgrading, which makes sense because that is what was available in PT4.

The Rock Collection bundle unfortunately seems to have disappeared from the store

Re: Upgrade questions

There was some mention in a prior thread about free upgrades for a period of time for those that made purchases within the last year.

Assuming we have forgotten when we made purchases, how will we find out if we qualify for that (i.e. does it happen automatically or do we have to apply for it ?)

Thanks for spreading the news to KVR ;-) and thanks for this. I'm aware that add-ons work across the three "levels" (I won't say versions, because that would complicate matters ), it was more a question of whether the add-ons continue from one version to the next, i.e. PT 4 to PT5.

I assumed they would do, but was a bit confused by the idea of the three flavours of PT5 (acoustic, EP, chromatic perc) and whether that had any bearing on the upgrade process.

Yes, thinking about it, it does make sense that users of previous versions automatically get the Acoustic Pianos flavour as that's what they had before.

So you got the K2 as an upgrade to K1, as well as the improved D4? It's a little confusing when there are improved successors to earlier models and others that are new models but continue the numbering from discontinued ones

Yeah, I noticed that was absent and I'm now kicking myself for not buying the Chromatic Percussion bundle

Clicking to buy the upgrade brings up a box to enter your serial number, so I would assume that Modartt will automatically know whether it's free or not by checking their records of when the software was first registered. But as I said in the OP, I'm just a noob, so may be wrong.

If it's for the same version, just head to your user area, and you'll have a download link.

I am referring to the new version 5 upgrade.

Re: Upgrade questions

I told you folks to do not hurry, to do not push the Modartt team.

They will solve anything.  But it's a lot of work, the software, all the website updates.

Re: Upgrade questions

Indeed the upgrade path is not very clear with version 5.
I had V4 Standard with Bluthner, after upgrading for 29 euros (very cheap), i have now V5 with D4, Bluthner AND the K2. This was a nice surprise since when i was reading the website i was thinking i would have to buy the K2 (which was a disapointment at the time).

Thank you modartt, now i'm eager to go home to try this new version !

No-one's pushing anyone for anything, just trying to figure out how the system works

Yes, I thought I'd have to buy K2 as well. Can't wait to get home...

Re: Upgrade questions

What would be included if I were to upgrade from Pianoteq 4 Stage to Pianoteq 5 Standard? Or can I even do that? I'd love to finally have the Standard tools!

Windows 10 1511 | Intel Core i5 4690K 3.5GHz | 16GB RAM
Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 | JBL LSR305
Casio Privia PX-150 | M-Audio Oxygen 49 (Gen 3)
Pianoteq Standard 5.5.1 | D4, K2, U4, KIViR, Bells

I think the new D4 and the K2. If you purchased the Bluthner or YC5 for Pianoteq 4 stage, then you would get the new version of whichever add on you purchased for Pianoteq stage 4.

Re: Upgrade questions

I don't understand one thing: is D4 now an addon, as it is for sale separarely (49euro)? If i buy v5, shall I have D4?
https://www.pianoteq.com/buy

Oh, yeah, I understood. Now you can buy different basic "flavours": 1) D4 and K2 2) rhodes + clavinet 3) vibes + xylo.

Pianoteq 6 Pro (D4, K2, Blüthner, Model B, Grotrian, Ant.Petrof)
Studiologic SL88Grand, Steinberg UR22mkII

Re: Upgrade questions

D4 it's still together with the main software, and not add on to buy.

You get the improved D4 and improved YC5 if you upgrade to V5

---Correction---:  Yoy can choose what free isntrument pack you will get, wen buy or update to V5. You can sellect if you want the D4 and K2, or if you want the electric piano R2 and W1, or even if you want the chromatic percursion xylophone marimba .
