Topic: Minimalising latency, first time user, advice needed (Ubuntu user)
Instead of buying a new DP I've decided to give Pianoteq a try on my Yamaha P70. I'm loving the sound but find the latency a bit of an issue.
I have hooked up my laptop via midi. My laptop specs:

I am also using external speakers that are connected to my laptop. I downloaded Jack, but don't know what to do with it. Another poster on this forum suggested not using it at all.
Audio device type: Alsa (what does this mean?)
Output: HDA Intel Front speakers
Active output channels: 1 and 2
Sample rate: 48000HZ (fixed value)
Audio Buffer size: 448 samples (9.3ms)
The piano sounds really nice but the latency is still to high in my opinion (especially when playing blues). Off course lowering the samples will help, but are there any other ways to do this?
Much of the technical terms regarding audio like Jack vs ALSA etc are new to me.
Hope you guys can help me out.
