Topic: little suggestion on browser

hi,

when you select a category in the browser like "marimba"  for exemple it would be great that other categorys be deselected automatically.
because when you search for "marimba" presets you don't care to read the "grand D4" presets.
for the moment you have to select "marimba" and manually remove "grand D4".

or maybe i'm doing somehting wrong ?

Re: little suggestion on browser

do this after you have selected your Marimba:  Just to the right of the preset selection bar/window there are a series of small icons.  Give a short click to the first one that looks like a doc icon with a pencil on it.  This will isolate the voices in that Marimba category so when you return to the preset selection bar/window you will see the voices that are similar to your first one.

Re: little suggestion on browser

Hi,

thx for your answer.
sorry not sure i was clear
i mean this when i am already in this browser.
i clic the Doc+pencil and a window open where i see presets and a column on the left where i see categories.
if Grand D4 is selected there's a long list of presets displayed.
if i clic on MARIMBA categories it adds to the already existing list the marimba presets.
i have the choice to :
1- close the grand D4 by clicking it in the categories so i only view the marimba ones.
2- scroll down to finally get to the marimba presets.

i guess a good feature would be that a selected catergory in the left column automaticly deselect the other categorys. or if you want multiple categorys a ctrl+clik would do it just like in any basic browser.

Re: little suggestion on browser

You are right on top of the answer . . . but:   Open a Marimba preset   THEN . . . THEN . .  . select the "pencil" icon.  The next time you go to the preset selection bar at the top . .  then you will see your category of interest.

Re: little suggestion on browser

I agree it should be possible to just click on one category/folder (right side of preset manager) by Ctrl+clicking... instead of additive switching on/off. This is actually contrary to the default file browsing behaviour, where you click to select individual files, and then hold Shift or Ctrl to create contiguous or non-contiguous selections of files/folders...

Hard work and guts!

Re: little suggestion on browser

How do I "short click" the preset manager icon? I can click normally to bring up the preset manager, or click and hold (or right click) to bring up the mini-preset manager. I'm not able to produce the behaviour LTECpiano is describing where a bank is automatically isolated.

As for Ctrl-clicking in the preset manager, I'm not sure... This is of course how multiple items are selected in say a file manager, but there's just something about the custom UI design that doesn't encourage this behaviour. I suspect it's the centering of the labels, which make them look like buttons instead of items in a list. Buttons aren't Ctrl-clickable typically, so that might be it.

Personally I would make the text in the list of instruments aligned to the left, and have the round corners of every list item straightened out to a box. All instruments / All banks / Factory should remain as buttons. List items would then have typical list behaviour including Ctrl and Shift-clicking.

I would also request a "Reset preset" button. I know now that I can right-click the preset bar, but that took some time to discover. Having right-click as a secondary function is very strange as other UI's don't work that way, Pianoteq would be better off imitating other software rather than inventing its own controls. In designing interfaces you're always better off using familiar behaviours. So that's my UX wisdom

Good suggestion sylvain.
