Topic: Dynamic range setting?

What dynamic range setting are you using and why?

Re: Dynamic range setting?

I have been experimenting with the dynamics a bit.  But right now I am using the default (typically 42).

I look forward to hearing input from others.  There are many different parameters I would love to have similar threads (tuning, etc) for discussion.

Re: Dynamic range setting?

Usually I reduce it to around 30-35 dB for my style of playing.

Hard work and guts!

Re: Dynamic range setting?

I don’t know what the dynamic range of  an acoustic grand piano is, but should that not be the reference?

Re: Dynamic range setting?

I've always thought so, and only now noticed it was without explicit justification. Implicitly though, the diff between D4 Classical BA and Bluthner Model One BA presets (45 v 42) seems to indicate it.

Re: Dynamic range setting?

According to the Pianoteq manual, "Measurements made on acoustic pianos show a dynamic range of
approximately 50 dB."

Re: Dynamic range setting?

For me, after calibration, the  Blüthner Model One dynamic range changes significantly across the keyboard.   I have to be careful not to play the bass keys too hard as they are very powerful.   I guess that when i get my VCP-1 this will improve.
