Topic: Standard vs Stage - same preset different sound ?

Hello,
currently I use Stage version and D4 Daily preset mostly. I downloaded Standard demo, same preset.
For some unknown reason, it sounds much worse. Same hardware, same preset (default settings, small hall reverb). I use Traktor Audio 2 external sound card, which works very well (great sound, very low latency). HD598 headphones.
With Stage version sound is very clear, on the bright side. With Standard it is kind of muffled, I don't really like it. I have to use Bright preset for similar sound, but it's still not the same.
Any idea why is that ? I guess parameters which are not in Stage version have lots of influence. I tried to adjust few of them, but no help.
Thanx

Re: Standard vs Stage - same preset different sound ?

AFAIK yes, "Standard" parameters that are not present in "Stage" version are not taken into account, you should set them to a neutral position in "Standard" version to get the same result...

I didn't touch anything. I just load default Daily practice. And yet it sounds different.

The built-in presets (with default settings) should sound exactly the same in all versions, Stage, Standard and Pro. I suggest you contact the Pianoteq support who will help you sort that out.

Velocity curves are the same ?

That's it, I had different velocity curve :-)
My fault. I didn't realize until now, how big impact it has on sound. I thought it only changed volume (how "loud" it responds to your input) level.
Thanx

Lylo, you are the best

I still think it only does that.

I think it changes the "loudness" of the sound that is generated.

What else does it do ?

When you change the velocity curve, it changes the MIDI values that feed Pianoteq. If the velocity is lower, then not only the loudness will be lower, but also the timbre will be different: it will be quiter (less bright). There is both a variation in volume and in timbre.

In the same vein:
- if you want to make the timbre quiter without reducing the volume, then reduce the hammer hardness in the voicing panel,
- if you want to reduce the volume at low velocity without changing the volume at high velocity while keeping the same timbre all along, then augment the dynamics.

Just compare 2 presets of velocity curve - slow keyboard vs fast keyboard. Even if you adjust the volume so the loudness is similar, sound character is completely different.

Re: Standard vs Stage - same preset different sound ?

Ok, I see now.

Thanks
