Topic: Laptop users

Are those of you using a laptop using a USB or a Firewire connection and is this via a sound module?   I see so many reports of USB connections having high total route latency that to me it seems that Firewire is the only solution?

Re: Laptop users

I use a 2008 MacBook and have both USB and Firewire interfaces. Both work fine with Pianoteq. Latency is not a problem.

Re: Laptop users

Kind of depends on your application, but either should be fine with either.

I use a laptop with a Presonus audio interface via USB and have no real latency problems. And of course I am doing this via ASIO.

Re: Laptop users

Confirmed: even if technically Firewire should perform (a tad) better, nowadays USB or Firewire deliver about the same performances. There are some drivers who perform better than others, but it's more a matter of being well written than a technology (USB vs Firewire) choice. And most of them are good if not very good, as long as you use ASIO (on a PC, of course). You should typically get (much) less than 10 ms, which is OK.

Re: Laptop users

For me Indigo xpress card in my laptop, but FA-101 Roland and Prodipe Studio 12 are good also.
And it's ok with the audio card of the laptop with Asio4all.

Hello Lylo,

I after your reply I researched the Echo Indigo Express card interface.   I already have an Echo Mia Midi but it is in my desktop.   The original price of the  Indigo is £187 but I have now bought a used one for almost a third of that.

So that sorts out my DAW interface but I need to buy a USB to midi interface to connect my Kurzweil midi keyboard.

I don't need the complexity of the FA-101 (Firewire) but I do need a usb/Midi interface that has drivers that work with Windows 7 pro 64 bit.

Hello Lylo,

Many thanks for your help again.  I have just bought this Roland interface for £29 and already downloaded the Windows 7 64 driver.

I'm looking forward to buying Pianoteq
