Topic: 2 midi-keyboards in 1 program and 1 computer?

Is it possible to connect 2 midi-keyboards, in 1 program(pianoteq), 1 computer, using different presets (sounds) for each keyboard. Or is the only possible way: using 1 computer and program for each keyboard?

Thank you, also for the makers of this wonderful program!

It's possible, you'd probably have to use two USB-MIDI cables, however you will have to run two individual instances of Pianoteq, as Pianoteq is not multitimbral.

Hard work and guts!

There are a few things to consider here:

1) Connecting the keyboards: EvilDragon suggested two USB-MIDI cables (or one USB-MIDI cable with two inputs). This would be a parallel connection and should work, but there might be a cheaper solution.

Alternately you may chain the MIDI signal through the keyboards, by hooking the "MIDI OUT" of one keyboard to the "MIDI THRU" of another keyboard with a MIDI cable, and then from the "MIDI OUT" of the second keyboard to the USB-MIDI cable into the computer. (Not all keyboards have MIDI THRU though...)

2) Running two instance of pianoteq. This you must do this inside a host program, e.g. I use "Reaper", which is a sequencer that hosts VSTi instruments. (Sorry my terminology is Windows based, on Mac they are called AU plugins I beleive). Anyway - any VSTi host will do ... (Logic, Cubase, Ableton, FL studio, etc...)

3) Finally you would want to assign each keyboard to a different channel, and respectively each instance of pianoteq to a different channel in the host program...

I know this might sound a little abstract, but the details differ between each host ... If this is all confusing, google Virtual Studio Technology get read some background

Mac VST also exists.

Hard work and guts!

There are also many free VST host programs:

I use Sonar and I have a project setup that currently runs four versions of Pianoteq. Sonar will save the individual presets loaded into each of these four Pianoteqs so it would work well for $eppeGebruers. Sonar is the only DAW I have much experience with but all pay-to-play ones should do this although I am not sure about the free ones.
