Topic: What is different with Upright U4?

Hello,

I just bought pianoteq and the U4 add-on, and I must say that after having played with the U4, it's hard to get back to the D4 or the K1 (or even the Bluthner). The sound is much clearer, not melted nor boxy, especially the "player open" setting.

Am I the only one to feel the same?

I have a request for the authors of pianoteq: would it be possible to apply the same technical changes (the ones that make the sound really clear and real) to D4 and K1, which are actually good pianos? It would be great.

Cheers,
R.

Re: What is different with Upright U4?

K1 is earlier than D4, that is earlier than Bluthner that is earlier than U4.

After each release the technology get better.
The first pianoteq version released was just a shaddow of the tonal quality of U4.

U4 also consume more CPU for calculate more variables and characteristics of elements that make up the piano sound.

Some people requested option to a "turbined" piano version model, made for hi end computers able to handle high processing needs, but aparently it's not so simple to do.

Hm, I don't share your findings. For me, U4 just has a slightly different tone than D4 or Blüthner. They all still suffer from some boxiness / strange statics in the overtones.

Would be interested what others think.

@zazor: maybe you could post an example U4/D4 short comparison snippet which demonstrates the openness you are talking about? I am definitely interested to understand what you mean.
