Topic: Disney's method of using a finger as a speaker?

This just seems strange. And I'm not sure of its benefit:

If you are close enough to touch the person, then you are close enough to simply speak with that person, yes? The article mentions that no one else can hear the audio signal. But they could still hear the speaker's unamplified voice, yes?
