Topic: Pianoteq 4.5 upgrade and U4 upright add-on released

Pianoteq 4.5 includes an updated engine using an improved physical model of the hammer/string interaction which benefits the new U4 Upright Piano as well as the D4, K1, YC5 and Blüthner Model 1 grand pianos. The timbre variation is now more refined, bringing more intimacy at pianissimo and stronger attack at fortissimo. Included in this new version is a new Condition parameter that allows with a simple click to modify the state of the instrument from freshly-tuned to completely worn-out.

Downloading the upgrade now  :)

Re: Pianoteq 4.5 upgrade and U4 upright add-on released

Thanks, Modartt team! Testing new model now!)
But i noticed, that old (4.2.1) version is unavailable now for Windows and Mac users, as far as links lead to the new 4.5 version

It's simply fabulous!
(and excellent set of presets for the upright! )

Wow, thanks for the new version - lv2 linux plugin is much appreciated (also the fact that there are both 2 and 5 channel versions).  Lv2 plugin tested in Ardour3 - works here.  Of course the new upright and other features are great too.

(I must say, I love the touch of humour that the "Condition" parameter brings to the GUI, too )

Great update & presets!  I'll be buying the upright asap, it's better than the very resource-hungry upright library that I'm currently using.  Cool stuff, Modartt!

Re: Pianoteq 4.5 upgrade and U4 upright add-on released

I hope the condition stays mint, and doesn't degrade automatically.
If it does - I'd have to sell my used pianoteq on the 2nd hand market ...

Very nice set of demo recordings for the upright on the listen page at http://www.pianoteq.com/u4 . These reveal the range of the presets well.

Kudos to MODARTT, enjoying the new Upright U4 model and the 4.5 upgrade!!

Going to see it right now...    Iiooopiii...

Re: Pianoteq 4.5 upgrade and U4 upright add-on released

Modartt did again.
Congratulation for this new and beautiful achieviment in quality.
The U4 sounds pretty, natural...

I have a slogan to use in pianoteq website.  " A U4 4U"  (A U4 for You)

A Condition Parameter.  Interesting...
The worn piano drunk too much black coffe and got stained teeth.  :-)

Before someone crazier guy suggest it, I will do first.
Mad request:

-A interface with a global weather website. You would add you GPS coordinates and the site would supply weather data of your location to allow pianoteq to alter the tune as it happens in real life.  A strong weather change can alter piano tune.

I don't think the condition parameter have some aleatory aspect.  Am I wrong?
Is it about detune the same way, some keys more than others, in the same pattern of "few differences from detune", or follows a variable pattern?

Maybe the condition could be inserted in the Note Edit.

The Ruined Piano preset appears as a Mint Condition, for U4 and D4.

The lid for U4 now got a modification, haveing the option to remove the front panell in a ghostly way (gradually). Nince, but you can't let the real lid (on top) in a midle position and the front panell totally present or totally absent.

Re: Pianoteq 4.5 upgrade and U4 upright add-on released

I must say... the upright model puts me right back in front of the old family piano, some 40 years ago (and yes, I believe that also was somewhere around notch 2 on the "condition" scale).

It somehow calls out to me to go back to basics and try to re-learn some skills lost by too many years of too little "proper" training!

Positive feedback:

Hey...   I found this Dixie piano version, and the first 6 notes show us something interesting in terms of sound. It's a nice imperfection that creat some charm. A kind of metalic ressonance...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pko-YqF-Zeg

Is that possible to create a new U4 preset similar to this?

Re: Pianoteq 4.5 upgrade and U4 upright add-on released

U4 with Binaural (demo mode) produces very soft sound. Bug?

Re: Pianoteq 4.5 upgrade and U4 upright add-on released

Congratulations Modartt, played around with the 4.5 version for a few hours and am very happy with it. Bass in the D4 and YC5 comes much more naturally in my opinion, my left hand leaves much less strained trying the get the tone it wants. For me this really is the version 4.0 as I hoped it would.

And a real personal thank you for the ageing slider: for including it and doing it so brilliantly.

Re: Pianoteq 4.5 upgrade and U4 upright add-on released

Would be possible the virtual wall be available to other instruments?

If we get a bit further, why not a option to move the piano in relation to the ground?
Gravity is no limitation to moddeling.

And for last, why not be able to turn the piano 90 degrees in relation to the wall/ground ?
Uprights have a differential, the soundboard backside sound come to the wall, while in grand pianos this sound go to the ground.
Why not have fun alterating the position (up/sit) of the piano ?

I love the idea of an upright grand! But won't the hammers fall against the strings

The new version sounds great. Love the D4 Daily Practice. I'm sure it wasn't there before, sounds so good. Well done Modartt.

Could the Midi section be upgraded to look like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmQNMi695so
Rather than the thin strip at the top. It would be nice to see the music dropping over the keys. It could also make tutorials more effective.

Seriously speaking...
I supose the convolution reverb perhaps can be a problem to interaction with moddeling, in case we choose to get so far with things like walls, distance from ground.

Or am I wrong?

Is pianoteq U4 add-on based on Yamaha upright pianos?

I only found Yamaha upright up to U3, but no U4 model.

If Yamaha goes up to U3, and Pianoteq takes it one step beyond, U4 seems like a logical name for the upright piano model to me. Or maybe "Yamaha U3" is a copyrighted name?

I think even MY playing might be Wow'd if I did that.
Maybe the ONLY way my playing would ever be Wow'd ?
Miss a note ? so what ?
That wasn't REALLY about a perfect performance, or even a good piano.
Not a difficult engineering problem; small crane, minor bracing and rigging, the player needed some CONFIDENCE in the set up, so was probably lifted a few times previously.

How different a grand sounds from underneath, from ~10 m underneath with the ground 1.x m below my ears, no "room" acoustics - interesting questions, maybe some simplification of the model.

Not that a trend to outdoor concerts with overhead pianos is likely

Re: Pianoteq 4.5 upgrade and U4 upright add-on released

I remember one thing...

V-Piano evolution had a upright model, but I only listened one or two performances of this model, and it wasn't very good, not sounding very like a upright.

Now I can't find any mp3 of V-piano upright model.

I would like to ask someone who have V-piano evolution, to post a comparison, cause I believe pianote U4 upright would win in sound realism.
