Topic: Upgrade HW keeping same computer name, activation problem?

Hi,

I'm going to change my mother board, processor and memory and keeping anything else.

This is on a Linux machine and I want to continue to use the Linux installation and the computer name if possible.

Will this make problem with my current Pianoteq activation? Should I just deactivate the current one and activate again after the HW upgrade. Will this work if I keep my current computer name?

Thanks, Jostein

My "GUESS" is that changing the mother board would require an activation change, a processor change probably not.
I think the computer "name" is probably irrelevant, if you mean the name you assign on your local network.

If you can't find the answer in the FAQ you should probably log a support question,

Well, I can't find anything about it in the FAQ, but find it very logic that a change of moderboard will look like a new computer. The thing that make me be think twice is that I'm intending to just connect my HDs and run my current Linux installation to the board, and the computer name (jca-studio) is also the alias for the activation in my user area at Pianoteq.  Well, I will contact support and in the mean time try to resist the HW upgrade.

FWIW:

I contacted support and quickly got information on how to do it, I did successfully did this:

I changed my HW and booted and started Pianoteq. Pianoteq asked me activate. After that I went to my user area on Pianoteq and deleted the old activation.

So I have everything I wanted: New motherboard and CPU, the same Ubuntu installation and the same computer/network name.

Pianoteq: you rocks! :-)
