Topic: Acuna88 akin to the Roland A80?

Quote, "Great keyboard. Almost identical (although not 100%) to the Numa Nano, which I also played again briefly. The key throw is a bit short, but I liked how it accomodated my playing a lot. Compared to a WMK, it offers more resistance despite the shorter throw. It recalls me of the old Roland A80."

I find it quite something that the Acuna88 has been likened in responsiveness to the Roland A80, a much credited circa 1990 keyboard! Mind you, they've used the TP100LR in the Zarenbourg which retails over 2.5 Grand!

I've talked about the responsiveness of the Acuna88 here before (see my review of the same).

I highly recommend the Acuna88 which you will find has one of the best stock velocity curves for playing piano repertoire.

Best bit, you can pick it up for far less than £400GBP!

Kindest Regards,

Chris

To confirm, the likeness is to the old A80, NOT the A88 which is a new Roland offering.

Re: Acuna88 akin to the Roland A80?

Hello Chris,

As an original purchaser of a (then) new Roland A-80 back in 1990, I still love its touch, after some 23 years.  Although the A-80's keys are wooden, they are "oil-damped" in their action, and they do not have the feel of newer keyboards with hammer actions.  EDIT:  From time to time, I find myself in a musical instrument store (such as Guitar Center), and try out newer 'boards.  To my sense of touch (and I do have access to a number of acoustic grands at church and from my tuning schedule); I have no plans on trading my trusty A-80 in on anything newer, including newer keyboards by Roland.

A number of years ago, I helped a great friend (actually the best man for my wedding in 1978) find a used A-80; likewise, he loves his A-80 too!

It is important to note that all of the demos I have made for Pianoteq, and other vendors, were made via my original keyboard.

Cheers,

AnonymousButCandid
