I have downloaded the latest KIvir file so as to have the newCimbalon model and now none of my historic add ons are there. In the add ons option menu it now says there is a version mismatch for the KIVIR file. Does anyone havre any suggestions.
you also need the latest update of Pianoteq that can be downloaded from the user area

Thank you both for posting how to add the cimbalom. I had updated to 3.5.2 and downloaded the latest add-on package but had forgotten how to load it into PTQ. I've just started playing with it. Love the sounds.

Drag and Drop the file from your file manager to the opened Pianoteq window. Works for PTQ and FXP files.
Another way and it's the way I did it is this after I went to the Users Area and downloaded the latest Add-on package.
Opened Pianoteq, clicked Options, then clicked Add-ons, then I scrolled down till the downloaded instruments that needed installing appeared. Then clicked Install. They now show up in the pop-up window that has all the instruments and presets.
I think I remembered that right.
There are several presets of the cimbalom in the download. I use the one named Cimbalom Magic the most as the damper pedal works with it in the usual way.

(And sometimes _not_ in moderation.)

well, if you ever saw a guy playing "the real thing", it's really not the same way you play a piano keyboard. So, if you want to emulate the cimbalom "playing" in a credible manner...
1) never use more than 2 notes at once: you only have 2 mallets (and probably not more than 2 hands?!)
2) use the sustain pedal a lot, otherwise, there is virtually no sustain at all, it's more like a "pizzicato"...
This is the guy I worked with as sound engineer ("l'opéra pompier", from Victor Kissine) and when I had a very close look at the instrument. Hence the demo :-)

How true! Although when I first started piano lessons, my older sister told me I was too young to use the pedals. When asked when I would be old enough, she replied."I'll tell you." She never did... So far years I never used the pedal but I did learn how to play legato!
