Topic: Sustain Control Parameter

A while back, Pianoteq increased the sustain duration of the 'Grand C3' pianos and gave us 'Grand C3is'.

Is it possible for a sustain duration parameter to be added to the design section of Pianoteq?

Re: Sustain Control Parameter

Uhnnn... you can change the graphic curve, for pedal effect, to restrict a bit the sustein, getting not the maximum sustein effect, but like for example only 70% of sustein.
But to increase sustein effect, more than maximum sustein available, would require more.

Re: Sustain Control Parameter

The sustain duration is directly associated to duration of the vibrations of the free strings (without dampers), and these depend on the soundboard impedance. So if you want longer sustain, you need to increase the soundboard impedance. Note that the duration of the notes with or without sustain pedal cannnot be dissociated, as both are governed by the same underlying soundboard mechanical property. However you can make the sustain resonance more or less loud with the sympathetic resonance slider. Besides, one thing that can give the sensation of longer notes is to decrease the direct sound duration (mentionned in some other threads).

Re: Sustain Control Parameter

Thanks for the information. This particularly highlights how good the Pro version is. I'm able to control the length of the sustain and where I want it across the octaves.

Pianoteq takes some learning (if you want to push it that far).
