Topic: Resolved: Sudden change to another preset? A problem with my system

[Edit: See the later post in this thread: the problem was in the keyboard, which was set to send a Control change command.]

I don't think that this problem is related to PianoTeq, but instead to my set-up. However, I can't find what my mistake is:

If I load a preset and either just let it sit or play for a time, another preset, one that I've attached a midi cc to, suddenly replaces it. I've checked all of my midi cc and program change routings. None of those attached to the presets are attached to notes or pedals. However, when I look in the box listing midi messages in Options\Midi, I see that a program change command has been issued to change the preset. Very strange.

I'm using:

Windows Vista 64
PianoTeq Pro 64 standalone
NI Kore (soundcard and midi knobs)
Ensoniq Halo midi keyboard.

I set the cc's correctly in both PianoTeq and the Kore, which I'm not touching as I play. Sometimes the program change command is issued a few seconds after I load a preset. Sometimes I can play for half an hour before the command is issued.

What bothers me most, except for the big problem itself, is that the command is issued even if I don't play a note or touch the keyboard, Kore, or the PianoTeq interface.

Anyone ever had a similar problem--random program change commands?

Damn, never had this happen to me.

Have you tried this with standalone?

Hard work and guts!

Re: Resolved: Sudden change to another preset? A problem with my system

I'm using the standalone, now. I really doubt that the problem is in PianoTeq. I just hoped that people here might have experienced a similar problem in the past and could suggest where to look for the cause of the problem.

And it just occurred to me that I need to test each step in the midi chain separately, so now I'll leave my keyboard turned off for an hour or so, with PT loaded, and then start it with the Kore unplugged, and then later add the Kore. I suspect the Kore, since it's the latest addition to the set-up, but I don't see how it can be doing this. Is that a glitch that some midi machines develop over time (I have an old Kore) --sending unwanted program change commands? (There are no complaints about this problem on the NI Kore forum.)

I also suspect Kore.

Hard work and guts!

Well, it turns out that the problem was in the keyboard. It was set to send a program change when playing a given arpeggio, and the previous owner had apparently set up a note to trigger the arpeggio. Or at least, I found that the keyboard was set to trigger an arpeggio, and turning that off seems to have stopped the unexpected program change.

But I still don't understand why the program change was sometimes sent when I wasn't touching the keyboard or clicking on notes. Most strange.
