Topic: Unplayed notes played while playing

I have an intel mac laptop with 4gig of ram... when i play pianoteq 3 as a stand alone or within logic, it works great but every now and then an odd un-played note is played, while I'm playing, for no understandable reason. It is quite loud and makes it impossible to use live!!

Have tried turning Multicore recording and CPU Overload detection off... also played around with different polyphony settings and buffer size... also tried resting my M-Audio keystation pro88... to no avail???

Re: Unplayed notes played while playing

Wow, I thought I was going crazy... Me too.  It's usually a full-velocity middle-E (E3 or E4?) but I thought it was just my piano going nuts on me every once in a while, but I've only used the piano with PT so I didn't know for sure.

Intel Macbook (I think it did it on my Macbook Pro as well, which lead me to think it was the piano and not PT), Roland HP203 over USB..

It's completely unpredictable, and it does show up in recordings.  Haven't tried playing/recording in GarageBand.  Might do that for a while and see if it shows up.

Could it be a glitch in the Mac MIDI drivers?  I don't have the heart (or the stomach) to play on my piano without PT long enough to see if it happens outside of the MIDI.

Re: Unplayed notes played while playing

I have _not_ experienced this problem myself, in either the standalone or plug-in (AU for Logic 8 or Live).  No "phantom notes" here!

I did, however, once have _both_ the standalone and the plug-in operating at the same time, and, having not looked at my dock (and hearing the distinct sound of the vibraphone in addition to the piano, at a different tuning no less!), I was mightily confused by the "extra" noise.  (Since then, the standalone icon has been removed from my dock -- I had hit it accidentally when opening up something else, and the blue just blends in a little _too_ well with my current desktop background. %^)

I believe I had done this once or twice before, and the results were always strange.

Also, I had once set some CD cases on top of the trigger pads on my Axiom 61.  Indeed, as I was playing, odd, unplayed notes were being emitted from the program, and I couldn't understand why.  Of course, not being one to ever really _use_ these pads, I had to wait a while until the reason finally dawned on me (by accident, I'm sure -- I must have moved the cases or some such nonsense).  I'm so smart sometimes!!!

Re: Unplayed notes played while playing

Thanks Jerry... u got it, yes I think it is almost always ( or always??) E3

This happens with stand alone ( without logic open )or inside Logic.. dhalfen.
Sounds like u don't have this problem.

Wow, pretty strange that u and I get it Jerry but not others... didn't happen on pianoteq 2.

Anyone else out there having this prob??

Perhaps Pianoteq can help??

Re: Unplayed notes played while playing

Not having anything like this using FL8, Reaper 3, or Sonar 7.

Nor in standalone.

But I'm on PC

Hard work and guts!

Re: Unplayed notes played while playing

What happens if you record the midi input in Logic ? Is the extra note recorded in the midi stream ? Do you hear it when you play back that midi recording ?

Feel free to open a support request at http://www.pianoteq.com/support_form , and send us the recorded midi file. Also a log of latest midi messages recorded with http://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/ at the moment the rogue note happens would be useful

Re: Unplayed notes played while playing

No problems here either - but I think using stand alone, and in particular  no other software in the chain eliminates a host of potential problems.

Yep... does record in midi stream and yes I hear it on play back and see it in track Julien... Ok, will open support request and send midi file and try sending snoize messages... ta

Re: Unplayed notes played while playing

Yeah, I had one recording where it happened, but I kept going to see if I could remove the note in a MIDI editor (the only editing I'll ever do) but when I removed the note, the note(s) that should have been there were missing.  Maybe the phantom note caused me to miss the intended notes.. not sure.

I honestly thought it was a hardware glitch with the E3 sensor on my piano, but I never tested it thoroughly since it's so sporadic and unpredictable.

I would look at the MIDI stream, but unless I'm not using the pedal (generates lots of events) and I look immediately, I won't catch it.

Re: Unplayed notes played while playing

Thanks Julien, Have sent what u suggested to support...

And thanks everybody else for your help... sweet...

Will post support response ASAP!!

Re: Unplayed notes played while playing

Wow... just discovered it glitches, that same E3, on another virtual piano that I have. Now suspect it is Mac midi driver.... don't think it's my keyboard as it happens with Jerry's Roland as well... I have M-Audio.

Need to go to Mac forum I guess... sorry pianoteq!!
