Topic: Damping changes at a particular note

Hi all, just picked up on this today.  Lovin' it, so far.

I ran into a snag though.  I was tweaking the C3 instrument and reached a point where it seems the damping changes suddenly after a particular note.  If I hit D4 at any velocity in a staccato fashion I get the expected response.  Any key above that, at the same velocity, rings out noticeably longer -- there is very little damping.  All pedals are off, reverb is off and I'm set for Stereophonic Output.  It's almost like there is some hidden parameter that changes the behavior after a certain note.

If I pick one of the other C3 presets, this goes away.  But if I go back to my preset it comes back.  I have tried changing the Voicing, Design and Action settings (even the Random button!) but I can still hear a difference.  Though the behavior does get more uniform, there is definitely something different about all the notes above D4.  I have read through the manual as well.

Any suggestions on this?  I think I have a fairly good grasp on how things work with this instrument but maybe I am missing something.

What is your setting for Last Damper?

In the manual:  10.  Effects Section, subheading Action, there is a line about "Last Damper" that explain what's going on.  It says:  "all keys with MIDI note number greater than this value have no damper".

My interpretation of this is that if the setting is 88 or greater, then all keys will have a damper that responds to the damper pedal, but if this is set to zero, then there will be no dampers applied to any keys no matter what the midi file reads.

Typically most grand pianos have no dampers on about the top octave - it varies from piano to piano.

If you set the slider to the extreme left and play any piano midi, it will be obvious that the dampers are all up.

What Glenn NK said - pianos don't have dampers after a certain key, so those keys resonate freely.

Yep, there it is.  Jeez, I could swear I tried that.  I would expect less damping in the upper octaves, I just had it set too low.  Thanks guys!
