Topic: OSX 64bit plugin ?

I think the 64bit osx plugin is not available beacuse of the langage to built osx 64bit application is only objectibe-c, and pianoteq is in c++.
So can you make the objective-c 64bit version ?

and can you make a ppc version and a intel version, instead of universal binary ?

Re: OSX 64bit plugin ?

The main reason for the non-availability of the 64-bit OSX pianoteq is that there is currently no 64-bit host on macos, except AU Lab which is a test program of Apple. For now, Logic,  Cubase, Live, DP are all released as 32-bit only on macos.

Re: OSX 64bit plugin ?

This will be changing in a few weeks, of course. :-)
Any news of when the 64-bit version for Mac will be available?

Well firstly September is more than "a few weeks" away, and secondly apart from a simple stand alone version, there would be no DAW to plug it in to.

Both the OS and the DAW have to be 64 bit for Pianoteq to operate as 64 bit.

Secondly, who cares? What's the rush? Will Pianoteq somehow magically play better at 64bit? I don't think so. It hardly uses any RAM as it is so that isn't an issue either. So what's the rush? What can't Pianoteq do now that it will be able to do as a 64 bit program?

+1

The fact that software is or is not 64bit code has plainly nothing to do with its output's quality, neither sample rate nor bit resolution of output or internal calculations are affected. It is only a matter of data throughput and address space for memory, but modern machines (G5 or newer) are simply fast enough and there is very few memory needed for pianoteq...

Pianoteq Pro 8.0.0, Organteq 1.6.5, MacBook Pro 16" i9, Mac OS X 13.0.1, Universal Audio Volt 4, Logic Pro X 10.7.5, FM8, Absynth 5, The Saxophones/Clarinets, Reaktor 6 and others

10 weeks away--it's really neither here nor there as to whether that qualifies as "a few weeks", i suppose.

And yes, most certainly the DAW will have to be 64-bit, as well. Sonar already is 64-bit (on PCs, of course), and I would be surprised if a few others aren't close behind.

Hey, as long as all our 32-bit plugins will run in a 64-bit environment, we're not going to have too much problem. And yes, you're right, Pianoteq doesn't use much RAM at all. So I apologize if it seemed like I was stirring up trouble.

There are, of course, other possibilities that the 64-bit OSes will offer, though. Most especially more efficient multithreading on multi-core machines. I think that's one of the ongoing areas of interest for many DAW users.

But hey, I really wasn't trying to be snarky, or start a debate. Sorry if it came across that way. I'm also certainly not trying to rush the Pianoteq team or anything. They are (as always) doing a *fantastic* job. It was purely out of curiosity that I asked.

Cheers to a great company, a great plugin, and a wonderfully supportive community.

I'm just curious if the 64-bit version for OS X is on its way now when Logic is running 64-bit?

Re: OSX 64bit plugin ?

Yes, it is ! The next pianoteq update will bring the 64-bit OSX version.

Re: OSX 64bit plugin ?

Here we are, Pianoteq 3.6.1 is out and is a 64-bit universal binary on Mac.

Re: OSX 64bit plugin ?

Excellent! thanks Julien!
