Topic: EQ vs. Volume

There are times when I do not wish to have the booming bass sound in my playing.

So, what I do is to EDIT the Volume and decrease the volume for the lower notes to what I find more pleasing.

This seems to work.

Recently, I have started experimenting with the EQ setting also.

It seems I can accomplish almost the same thing by selecting the SOFT setting for EQ.

I am wondering what the difference is between these two methods.

Re: EQ vs. Volume

If you lower the level of the bass notes those notes will be quieter, including all their harmonics. If you roll off the bass on the EQ, it will reduce the fundamental and lower harmonics of those notes but leave the upper harmonics unaffected.

Re: EQ vs. Volume

If your using the Pro version, maybe try and isolate the bass notes by double clicking on the slider to bring up the 'Note Edit' panel, add extra anchor points, then increase 'Piano', 'Mezzo' and decrease 'Hammer Noise' in the isolated area.
This might give you a nice treble instead.

Thanks, Don.

I did that also and I like it.

I also found the higher pitched keys were a little "ringee" so I increased the string length for those and that seemed to deaden them somewhat.

I am pretty happy with the sound now.

I really have stayed away from those individual note edit options but I may start experimenting with them as it appears they can make a significant difference.
