Topic: Pianoteq Play 4

Does anyone have an ETA for Pianoteq Play 4? I heard it would be in May, but nothing specific. I'm very anxious to be able to play the Play and report my experiences.

Some of us have no money to upgrade at this moment and would very much like to be able to play the new pianos everyone is talking about.

This wait is making me feel like the poor kid around the corner that has no candy while everyone else is swimming in a caramel pool :(

Edit: minor spell check.

Re: Pianoteq Play 4

May is specific enough. So, worst case scenario, May 31

Hard work and guts!

Re: Pianoteq Play 4

Yeah, I'll just watch all the cool kids swimming in caramel.
This is a money driven company, after all. Its not like I don't understand the marketing idea behind the delay, because I do.

I hope PT4 delivers enough to compensate for the anxiety.

For the moment, I guess I'll just go back to my Play and, if it goes down to the worst case scenario, I'll at least have a pleasant thing happening for sure in may 31st (I'm going to receive a very important grade at that day, and I except deadly news).

Edit: minor spell check.

Re: Pianoteq Play 4

Well, nobody is preventing you to download v4 trial and have a play with it to hear the new model!

The reason for the delay is that beta tests were concentrated on Standard and Pro versions really. Seems like Play (or, new name, STAGE) has a codebase that is sufficiently different to cause a delay in reimplementing all the new things from v4...

I think you are on to something here.

And this try & buy bs for customers that already have the previous product (cheap version) is kind of popular with companys that want to have max benefit from the new product.  Can´t really blame them.

With hype comes different kind of things.
You could always have the option to release all versions of the product simultaneously once they are finished

With Modartt i do want to belive this "delay" is because of different codebase.

D4 sounds and feels nice. Hopefully this month we have STAGE and i can get my hands on it.
And hopefully Modartt is working on with the upright piano.

Peace & Patience!

I doubt that it is a different code base.

My take(pun) on it is that since the "Play" version is a fixed pre-set type of product the things that will be "fixed" need more consensus from what is probably a larger team of ....whoever, it could be that they are gathering OUR feedback on Pro and Standard, then they will set whatever coefficients in whatever equations.

I also figure that they changed "Play" to "Stage" to foil the English language jokers; "Play 4" would quickly be turned around by detractors :-D

It's more likely they changed the name to disperse the possible confusion that could arise with EastWest's PLAY engine.

Hard work and guts!

I think so too. It´s actually quite annoying example in cubase to have Play_ vst and pianoteq Play close to each other in the vst instrument list. More than once i have selected the wrong vst

This is not a major headache for me but still.

I also want to believe that the delay is due to different codebase but, being a programmer myself, I have some doubt.
It is, however, possible that, as EvilDragon mentioned, the beta testers were all busy with the more expensive versions and didn't have enough time to beta test the new Play (Stage).

I too, call BS on having to download a trial version of something I own. I certainly don't want to play for 20 minutes with silent notes and have to come all the way back to my computer to restart the software.

I'm observing this forum and a few others and have been seeing lots of positive feedback on the new Pianoteq. Too bad I can't afford the Pro :(

Lets see how Stage will turn out. Maybe it will even be worth the delay. I sure hope so.

Re: Pianoteq Play 4

Many thanks to Modartt for releasing the Play version just before Father's day. Since weather is cold and rainy, you saved my day tomorrow.

BTW for Version 4 the "Play" version has been renamed. The new name is "Pianoteq Stage".

Yep, as I think I stated somewhere. A couple of times. I think it's a better name, too.

Hard work and guts!

Re: Pianoteq Play 4

Yippy..have those missin' notes I was missin'! Thanks

Re: Pianoteq Play 4

The "Pianoteq Stage" is a measurable and audible improvement (compared with the previous "Play" version). Kudos to the Modartt team!

New features that were not available on the "Pianoteq Play" version:
- D4 Grand with over 30 presets/variations e.g. different Mic positions
- K1 is also included, but I find the D4 so much better
- Additional effects such as amp, chorus, mallet bounce, etc.
- The new convolution reverb which IMO is a major improvement
- Resizable interface, much appreciated!
- I also find the new Keyboard calibration wizard and the "Recently played on the keyboard"-history very useful
- It is possible to create and save your own presets e.g. with different effects (EQ, Delays, Chorus, Amp, etc), different velocity curve, and/or different action noise settings.

I'm a very happy customer. Thanks again to all involved in producing this fantastic piece of software!

Re: Pianoteq Play 4

For some reason i didn't like Piano 4 Trial, but i love  Stage.

Re: Pianoteq Play 4

Leaving my PianoTeq Stage feedback here:

- can not get the D4 to sound right

- think I notice a more organic sound to K1, which I love

- love the velocity/pedal curve helper

- love the new effects

Oh, and love the fact that I can still use this on my 2008 MacBook!

Really looking forward to further improvements.
